Using Advanced Supply only - not adding up
I am in the summer of '40 and playing Germany. I have Advanced Supply on only. Everything is manual.
I am told that I have 42 supply points, but can only count 36 - I have looked on the supply screen (shows all trucks on map) and same - 36.
Am I missing some drain on supply??? My pool total is 42 when I click on units.
?

Have you accounted for supply that might be sitting on islands and/or transports? That always messes me up.

Check Sardinia like Becket said. It starts with 5 on it....
North Africa may have a couple sitting around that you havent noticed also..
hope that helps.
BTW - I have audited supply probably fifty times and end up finding the the stray truck. I have yet to find it inaccurate.
Good luck

I have counted the islands and am pretty sure I haven't loaded any on transports yet.... does 1 pt go out to sea per transport? If so, that might be it. My German fleet is still in the harbor until sub research bears fruit, but I've posted the Italy fleet in the center of the Med. But I never put any trucks on the transports.....
My move is all done in terms of unit movement and I was hoping to do some rebuilding - which is when I noticed the discrepancy.

If the supply was out to sea you would see the truck in the water next to a transport.
All the "trucks" numbers add up to your total. They are there, just have to scrutinize.

I have a related question. I just got this game and after experimenting a bit and reading the manual and trying to get things straight, I finally decided to fire off a few shots.
One thing that I've yet to get a handle on is supply. At sea, I thought that transports handled supply. Now I see that you can put supply trucks out to see, also.
What purpose does this serve? Are supply trucks and transports not the same thing-- both representing supply, one on land and one at sea?
I am having some problems with keeping my stuff at sea in supply (advanced supply; auto off).
I thought that having a clear line of transports, attached to some portion of land that is also in supply, would keep ships supplied?
Also, this Lend Lease-- if I am the Western Allies early on in the war, when America is still out of it-- how do I get this LL to kick in. The manual states a continuous line of transports from one country to another does the trick. I thought I had that but still nothing on LL (when I hit the "L" key, nothing happens).
Also on LL, the manual states that LL provides either 10 or 50 supply points. Can the Western Allies can material, too-- like some planes?
This supply thing is quite a puzzle to me. I'm figuring some things out but not everything.
Some very nice, CLEAR FAQ on supply and how it works would surely be a nice thing.
Thanks,
Alanb

Alan;
Supply "trucks" and transports are very different animals.
Supply trucks are consumed when used, transports are ACTUAL units that require population to operate and such. Supply trucks represent the fuel, bullets, and food that an army requires to fight - more typically consumed in an attack thus the high cost (1 per unit) on attacking and the low cost (1 per area) on the defense.
On to supply at sea:
The problem with supply at sea with auto supply off, is that you must actually allocate supply "trucks" to each vessel that you need or want to move. For example; lets say you have a heavy fleet in hawaii that you want to move one sea zone. If there is a supply on hawaii then it will consume one "truck" and you can move the heavy fleet one sea zone. Fair enough so far?
Lets continue the example and say you want to continue moving the heavy fleet several more sea zones (this is called extended movement and is represented by red arrows on the fleet icon by the barrels) To give this heavy fleet enough fuel and such to move those additional sea zones requires an enormous effort in the form of four (4) more supply "trucks." From the previous one sea zone moved, the fleet is now out at sea away from hawaii where the supply is at. To get the fleet moving its extended movement you need to "send" four (4) supply "trucks" to it. This is accomplished by either (A) sending a transport loaded with 4 supply "trucks" out to the sea zone with the fleet, or (B) having a chain of transports linking an area with supply so you can strategically move the supply "trucks" along that "pipeline" so to speak. Once the heavy fleet gets the four (4) supply in its sea zone, select the fleet and off you go on your exteneded movement. You can see how moving navies far distances can be HUGELY supply expensive. Particularly in the open waters of the pacific.
As a side note: If you do not want "pipelines" of transports carrying supply "trucks" you can always simply have many transports go right along with the fleets loaded to the gills with supply "trucks". This is akin to the "oilers" and "coalers" and "cargo" ships that accompanied the huge American fleets in WWII.
Hope this long, verbose answer helps you out Alan. Once you get the hang of it, the supply net is very intuitve and great fun to manipulate! I love it! GREAT JOB MATRIX!!

RE: Using Advanced Supply only - not adding up
Mike,
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I was under the impression that transports acted as supply trucks do on land. In testing that out, it wasn't playing out that way.
That was a very nice explanation, with excellent examples. A lot of times you just don't see things like that in manuals.
Thanks again,
Alanb

As for the Lend Lease, with Advanced supply rules you must physically move the supplies (the truck units) to an area owned by the country you want to give the supplies to. So you need to have a chain of transports to a Russian area and then move the supplies to the area (usually Karelia or Archangel or through Persia). There is no Lend Lease screen with Advanced Supply rules in force. Once they reach the other country, they will become supply units of that country and you will no longer control them.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Ok, I found the main culprit - it was Italian East Africa - 5 supplies.... now to just find that last one [8|]

Yup! We called 'em Supply Wagons. I still play SPI's War in Europe, which has the supply counters(but they do not expend). My wife hates it due to the room it takes up in the study

Just a small tip regarding fleet supply: The trucks dont have to be in the actual seazone - just an adjecent one!

You can always turn supply off - but that is like playing SP WaW with C2 off
