How do you do pearl harbor?

Post by randell765 »

Forgive all the questions but how do you do Pearl Harbor, when I quickly glance at the Pacific, all I see are transports as far as the eye can see, I'll recheck moving my mouse over the icons but that is all I saw at a quick glance.

BTW, how can anyone do R&D with Japan, I am too busy building inf,art and supply trucks to put 1 single point in, how and what do other people use it for? <Japans points>?

Personally, I wouldnt bother with Pearl Harbor until the patch comes out. Currently, there is no Surprise Attack advantage (bug). You are really risking your planes for longshot of doing some damage.

But, FWIW, you should have 4 Carriers and Carrier Air Groups in Japan. Remember that the game starts in 40, not 41, so you shouldnt be planning on hitting Pearl until later anyways.

My first game with Japan, I more or less ignored China and concentrated on Research early on. I didnt have enough supplies to repair my captured resources efficiently so I got behind the curve and never really caught up. I held my perimeter for quite a while, but I never threatened Russia or India so Germany was eventually overrun. In my next game, I'll cut back Research a tad and make sure I have enough supplies to repair everything I take early on.

Someone started a thread for Japanese strategy in the war room part of the forum. He modified his approach to go after the carriers south of Hawaii instead of the battlehips in Pearl. This makes a lot of sense but the logistics for pulling it off sounded a bit tricky.

As said above, until the patch fixes the surprise attack rule it is a moot point. Even once fixed, you will only get the surprise attack bonus on one single combat and not your entire first turn of war. This means that you have to pick the opening attack carefully.
