Do you need 2.40 installed or can you install over 2.30?

Here's what the download page currently says:
2005 APR 4 - Uncommon Valor Patch v.2.41 (1.2 MB)
This is a comprehensive patch. No previous patches required. Includes 11 bug fixes and 4 player requested enhancements.

Not too sure I believe the "no previous patches required" bit though. I'd have thought you'd need to do the incremental patches to 2.3 first. Anyone have the offical line on this?

I also think you need to have either 2.3 or 2.4 already installed: this is what Erik Rutin said in an earlier thread, but I do not know if it is official. More importantly: does the new patch work? (I had not time to try it yet)

Here's what it says in the "Press Releases, News and Events from Matrix" forum above.
Matrix Games and 2by3 Games (www.2by3games.com) are very excited to release the final 2.41 update for Uncommon Valor, which updates the 2.30 and 2.40 versions with additional fixes based on player feedback.

I'm more inclined to believe this than what's posted on the download page.

[&:] I cannot get it to install. I keep getting an error message that the file type is not recognized by microsoft systems information. What am I doing wrong? All prior downloads (except 240) worked fine!

You need to be on version 2.30 or higher in order to install 2.41
The patch is basically a new executable only.

And yes. Coastwatchers no longer have unlimited sight.[:D]

Welcome.

What operating system are you running?
It sounds like MSI does not recognise the file.

Thanks for the welcome.
I am running Windows 98. Patch 241 shows up as a zip file - unlike previous patchs. I tried two downloads first saving it to the Patches file inside UV. Second opening from the site to temp widows file. Same results. Am I doomed to playing 2.30 for ever more?

Within the zip file should be an exe installer. Run the installer and it will place the right files in the right places. This is not just an exe replacement, I believe one or two other files were also changed.

This was an error on the download page. v2.41 replaces v2.40 - you only need to be updated to v2.30 in order to apply v2.41 but you do need to get to the v2.30 level using previous patched first. The download page has been updated to remove the incorrect text.

Patch installed - everything looks good - no coastwatcher problem, everything else looks tight.
IN time for anniversary of 1942 events! Hard at work proving to my australian friends what would have happened if Japan had taken Port Moresby.

Did you start a new game or a saved game?

New game, scn.7 PBEM. Ran a test against the AI, and the same thing happened. One sdq is entirely stripped of its aircraft, three sdq's loose most of theirs, the remaining sqd. gains a few aircraft. Could I ask someone to boot up this scn. to see whether it's just me or if it's general?

Lucky SoB, you! [:)] It appears my problem can be circumvented by starting the scn.7 up under patch 2.30, then installing 2.41 after the first turn (touch wood). Happily, my opponent, Grunt6971, has gracefully accepted a restart.

Oh, did you run the first turn? It's only then they disappear, mind...

Well - that's a horse (or C47) of a different color ....

On start of Scen 7 - I have 63 ready C47s
After doing nothing for turn 1 (just hitting end turn), there are 23 ready C47s....
So you are correct Timtom - something is amiss

still too many pilots!! RE: Patch 2.41 is out!

Post by bryanh06 »

I figured that the patch would reset my overstaffed squadrons but this doesn't seem to be the case. I've run several turns and I still have several squadrons with many more than number of planes+3 pilots -- one VMF still has 197 pilots for 24 F4Fs -- what gives? How hard is it for the program to strip out the overage (hopefully those with the least experience) and send them back to the pool?
