Japan not gaining neutral trade?

Post by Pocus »

Early in the game I think that Japan is supposed to gain 1 res/turn from Siam begining with turn 2 (transport correctly placed). But there is nothing reported on the region screen, only the 3 coming from the US.

Also, Sarrawak is neutral, so with a transport fleet next to it, Japan should also get it? I dont have it.

My tally is then 10 (the base) + 3 for US for a total of 13 whereas I expect 14 or even 15 with Sarrawak.

Any hintsight???

In the early turns, there is a rule that has Siam giving you the resource. This means that it should show in the gift column and not free trade. This is a good thing for Japan since they will get one every turn instead of just every other turn as they would for free trade. By the time this special gift rule for Siam expires, you will probably invade them to have the whole resource in pocket anyway. The trade rule does not do nearly as much for Japan as it does for Germany.

Regarding Sarawak. If it has one resource, you will get one free trade only every other turn. I don't have the map in front of me and am having trouble picturing a neutral island in the pacific that has resources on it. I thought all those islands belonged to someone.

Sarawak is not neutral so no free trade. Siam should show up in the free trade column starting with turn 2 (not gift column). Due to the way free trade works, if you are linked to it, you should see 1 every turn starting after turn 1 (due to round off). If you aren't seeing it, this is a bug. Please send a save to 2by3@2by3games.com.

I sent you the files Joel. If you can confirm or infirm the supposed bug, perhaps there is something I have not understood?

I must have missed that one. What save/email was it that had this Japanese free trade problem? I did a quick test of a new game and I see 1 free trade on turn 2 (I have transports next to it running back to Japan). If you sent a save, let me know what email that came in or please send it again. Thanks.

I sent it at 2by not 2by3. Now that I think about it, I sent you also something about the Italian not garrisoning some days ago at this mail and didnt got a response (so I supposed you were too busy, but perhaps you did not got it)

EDIT:
ok I reran the saves, thats my fault, the neutral trade is only calculated in production phase, not in the action phase. Forget about it.

Have you got anyway this italian garrisoning problem?

EDIT-2:

Got the supposed bug of a fleet (that dont have already fired) which cant attack another one. It happened with one of my sub wanting to attack the US main pacific fleet (6 CV) => the autocalculator told me that the probability of hit was 0%, which has believe is technically incorrect, even if the chances are rather low to pass through the airplanes attacks.
This 0% chance success lead to the icon being desactivated, but for people I dont think its clear.

that being said, I think there is a bug on that too. Because the autocalculator dont take into account the -1 evasion incurred by ships if they are fired upon at least once... well thats my theory, but if you take the german first turn, they put subs in the med. Send some light fleets, and the attack icon is disabled, whereas with the -1 evade, its possible to hit the subs.

and lastly, if you send the swordfish near gibraltar and the LS near the coast of England (these take a -1 interdict modifiers), the icon light up. Fair enough, do the battle, then check the modifiers: each and every English unit get the -1 penalty from interdiction, and not only the 2 LS! Is it supposed to works like this?

to summarize:
the LS near gibraltar (no interdict) + the NAV + 2 LS near Ireland (got interdict) versus the 2 italian subs. The 4 English units get the interdict penalty. Dunno if it should works like this?

I did get your saves on Italian garrison issues and Gary has made some changes (they will be in the second patch as the first patch is very near release). Thanks for the saves.

There are cases where combat cannot be activated. Send me a save if you think you have a case where combat should be possible.

As for interdiction, air and naval units can gain interdiction points, but only those that have actually gained interdiction points should suffer the penalty in combat. If there is a mix of units with interdiction points and those without, each unit should be impacted only by it's interdiction points (shown on the unit in the unit pop-up as a yellow number. Again, I would have to see saves to understand your situtation unless you can describe it step by step in detail (easier to send a save showing the situation).

I will explain [;)]

Let the German IA makes his turn. 2 italian subs will be positionned in eastern med.
as WA, send one LS from the fleet near gibraltar, the swordfish, and one LS from the fleet near Ireland.
Only the LS coming from Ireland has 1 interdict penalty.
execute the battle
look at the battle detail. All English units will get the penalty.

Ok, just tried that and only 1 Allied light fleet suffered the -1 to the die roll. I can't seem to duplicate your situation. Can you send me a save. Are you playing at a high difficulty setting? That would do it, and with the evasions involved, you would see a max -1 modifier so it would appear as if they all were getting the modifier.

Speaking of Japan and free trade, I have not played more than a few turns as Japan yet, but I am trying to concont an oddball strategy for them.

Are there any more neutrals that Japan could reach for free trade assuming that they were not yet at war with the WA? Persia does not count since the connect indirectly to Germany.

I am not at a location where I can look at the game to see if there are any neutrals in Central or South America who have resources. I know that Portugal's colony on the west coast of Africa has one but that is too far. Does the Portuguese colony on the east coast have a resource? (I know, this is pretty darn far too, but I did say it was an oddball strategy).

yes you are right, on normal diff no problem. But if you give +1 attack modifier to the German, the problems appears:

each german unit get +1 (normal) BUT only this +1, even vs interdicted ships (abnormal)
each WA unit (even uninterdicted) get -1 too (abnormal)

Well, the maximum bonus/penalty to a die roll is 1/die. If you are talking early Allied ASW or early Allied torpedoes, they only roll one die, so +/- 1 is all you can have, regardless of the actual totals.

ok didnt knew that. It explains case 1 but not case 2 though (that uninterdicted WA units get a -1 if the German advantage is set to +1)
