Much thanks. On a side note, at first I was hesitant to purchase this game as it didn't appear "main stream", and I was afraid I would be buying a sort of slipshod, unprofesional game. After my short time reading the forums, I've completely turned around my opinon. The game runs and feels like any game I've ever played before. Whats even more impressive is the speed with which a representative from 2by3 or one of the more experienced players answers questions that pop up on the forum. For once I feel as if the community is actually intouch with the people who know whats going on, and have some muscle to actually get things going, rather then some random person a company decided to make a mod.

I wouldn't hesistate in purchasing another product from 2by3.

Oh, come on, climbing up on a tank and tossing a grenade in it is fun! You gotta have some "kill" games for those days when you just need to blow stuff up [:D]

Too much wargaming will burn you out, you need some comic relief now and then. [;)]

exactly my learning path[;)]

Chinese -USSR -Japan - Germany

Playing as USSR is actually harder than playing Japan or Germany since in order to get a decisive victory you must schedule your landing to Japanese mainland and produce Transports beforehand. However, russians are tough so you have much batter chance to survive and at least get a draw.

Heh. I did enjoy the game, and found it a lot of fun. However, it seems as if the community never gets any responce from anyone of noteworthy postion. I still play BIA from time to time, but I find that I can't play more then three or four rounds of multiplayer in a row without getting distracted and doing something else.

edk:

Don't feel dumb. I have been playing wargames since the 60's. I am also finding the learning process slower than I would have expected. I am going to stick with it, however, because it appears to be a great game, just not as "intuitive" as some other wargames. This is not necessarily a bad thing.

Dont worry about it. Check with your mum in case you are only three years old. That could be whats causing it:)

If you are used to a game more like Axis and Allies I would actually suggest playing a few games with the AI controlling Production and concentrate on learning effective tactics for what you want to do on the first turn etc.

I didn't find the tutorials to be all that useful (Sorry! Would really suggest something more along the lines of a sample turn rather than a show and tell of the screens...would be a combination tutorial and beginners strategy guide) and while the book is informative it could spell out some of the basic principles a bit more than it does.

I think what might confuse some newbies is how free form the game is. Meaning most games don't allow you to attack the Netherlands with infantry AND THEN blitzkrieg with your tanks into Paris. I'd even venture to say that most would actually be the reverse (bring your tanks into the netherlands with you and allow them to continue on after the attack). Not that either system is BETTER. You just have to get used to how THIS game is played.

But once again, play a few games with the CPU controlling production, try to make useful use of all your available units, repair captured/damaged resources, factories and railroads, pay attention to combat odds before initiating combat and you'll be fine.

Granted, you may zig when the AI Production zags, but you will get the basic concepts down and be ready for more. And don't be ashamed to restart a solo game if you think of something you could have done better. No one is watching!

You'll eventually love the game like I do. First sign of love for me? When I tried to mass units in Poland for an invasion of Russia and realized that it's rail capacity couldn't exactly handle my whole army moving west in one turn. :)
