CHS Aircraft Tops feedback

Post by TheElf »

This thread is specifically for feedback on the Aircraft tops that I contributed. What I would like form those who are SERIOUS about improving the CHS are comments like:

"Elf I saw the Blenheim mkIV 'in game' today and the trailing edges of the wings look a little blurry"

or

"Elf the B-17Es waist guns are really long and have knobs on the end of them"

Other issues:

Irish Pennants- A pixel or two that stick out away from the Aircraft.

Halo- A glowing effect caused by misalignment of the Art file and the underlying alpha.

Complete Misaligment- It just looks cut off and uneven

Please be specific and post gripes here. My next post will explain some issues, but feel free to repeat gripes in this thread until I acknoledge you.

Thanks for the help!

I have run the first turn of the CHS and seen some issues. The IJ file is, for the most part, good to go. I am pleased. There are some MINOR issues with individual a/c but nothing that can't wait for the next big update

The Allied file is another matter. There has been a VERY recent alignment issue that creates a "halo" around just about every Allied aicraft that has been modded. How or when this happened is unknown as i have been playing my current PBEM game with the modded files for over a month now and this never happened. I can only assume that it happened in the last day or so as I was rushing to make the files to Don for a Spooky upload.

That being said it is not a gameplay stopper and the planes ARE recognizable so I will not be doing an immediate fix. Just bear with me until I can get the problem isolated and fixed. It isn't a big enough deal to "stop the presses" as it were and have everyone download a band aid. It'll get fixed soon enough. Til then enjoy.

And please point out ANY issues even if they may be explained in the post.

CHS - Aircraft top art

1. P40E - looks fuzzy around the edges(bad alpha?), the P40B looks fine.

2. KI-44 (Tojo)- ruff edges, bad alpha?

3. KI-48-I (Lilly) there's a dot? in front of the aircraft.

1. Already fixed in the next palette. Many allied aircraft for some reason developed a "Halo" sometime right before I sent the file to Spooky. For about a month prior they were fine. Not sure what happened. Probably going to have to redo all the alphas. Actually a blessing in disguise. I learned a new way to do alphas is faster and more precise.

2. That Tojo was from one of my first efforts. I haven't even done an updated CHS top for the Ki-44 yet. Itching to, but concentrating on early allied tops.

3. On my list to fix.

I am adding new aircraft daily and fixing known problems. Wil take time, but by the time the next version of the CHS comes out most issues should be fixed.

Pad, you are the only respondent to this thread! Thanks. I need all the eyes I can get. My objective is to make ALL the tops look as good as the tops that you see with no issues at all. The more info I get from people such as yourslef the sooner it'll get done.

Another known issues. Halos around SBD and A-20.

I've seen the halos too but it is surely not a show stopper. All in all it's a great job - Thanks!

These aircraft have already been corrected and look great! Thanks for the feedback. Please inform me of any other haze or halos, even if you think might know about it.

TheElf

Is there any way to get a copy of your latest Aircraft top art?

I'll be happy to edit the scenario to help test them.

Would have posted sooner but have been a bit under the weather....damn friend's kid gave me strep throat. So after plotting the little tyke's death...I have finally had time to play.

Noted the halo effect on some of the Allied planes....if these are the same ones you sent me before later on in 43 and 44 they get much worse of some of the new planes.

The Ki-48 dot has already been pointed out....Noted that the prop on the B5N is almost a white color

All in all though EXCELLENT work. I for one really appreciate all of you hard work and effort in doing this. The resizing of the fighters is incredible. [&o][&o][&o]

So for any that have mocked your efforts or are just being a stick in the mud...they can just kiss my A$$.

Elf Im seeing some mismatches in sizes.

For example here:

The rufe dwarfes the a6m2 even though they are the same plane.

The P39D dwarves the P40E and so forth...

It feels a little strange...

Would it be possible to get two versions of your plane tops???

I like the idea of the fighters being smaller than the bombers but I also kind of miss the larger more viewable fighters as well.

Could you put out a version of your old regular sized fighters in addition to the smaller versions???

That Rufe has not been modded by me yet. It is the stock Rufe. The P-39D has already been resized, check my allied planetop thread in this very Scenario design forum.

Tanaka I have gone through so many different iterations of the palettes that I literally have a dozen different versions in varying states of disarray. I maintain one set of "finished" or "up-to-date" tops and that is what I send to everyone. Right now I am committed to finishing one set of tops for the CHS and then one set of tops for use with stock scenarios. After that I'm going on vacation[;)]

I'll consider an over the hill palette, but for now what you see in the thread updates I put out is what you'll get.
