My last post covered up to the 17th so here we go..
A good day for the Empire of Japan... Singapore falls... Nearly 58,000 allied troops are captured. The base facilities are barely hurt, although industry and the repair yards are halved. I have ordered manpower and resources repaired. Roughly 25 HI is damaged and it will not be repaired - at least not yet. The Repair Yards have been doubeld in size and will repair out to size 48 - enough to fix flt damage on just about any ship and enough to offer repair facilities to my smaller ships.
I have ordered most planes in Malaya to Singapore and zeros are already flying CAP. Transports are also arriving to the AF while engineers work on enlarging the port to size 9. I will soon be moving my parachute regiments to Singapore to finish preparing for their aerial invasion of Palembang. Troops at Singapore are allowed to recieve replacements and will be given a week or so of rest before being shipped off to new battles. The troops here have been preparing for other invasion for at least 2 weeks, so Sumatra and Java should fall fairly fast once I start invading...
The battle for Canton is a stalemate. My 1.5 Naval Guard units stormed ashore and ran into 4 US units - a BF, a RCT, as well as an AA and ART I think. The first battle went bad for my troops, but not a surprise as most first battle due on an island invasion.
My MSWs are clearing sub-laid mines at Palau as well as more mines at Canton Island.
The air battle in Burma continues, with nightly Sally raids on the airfields at Akyab - 5 british planes are reported destroyed on the ground with 6 more damaged. 1 Sally failed to return from the raid. Also 30 allied troops at Akyab are wounded. The AF is hit pretty good with 3 airbase, 1 supply and 20 runway hits.
Rob has landed men at Baker Island via Sub (I think) and taken the island. I would guess roughyl 100 men have landed. I have an NLF from Kwajelein loading up to retake the island.
Heavy air combat in Northern China continues. The RAF, aided slightly by the Chinese Air Force, raided Kungchang. 3 Zeros were shot down along with a pair of RAF P-40s. Several british and chinese bombers were also damaged by CAP and flak. nearly 200 IJA troops were wounded in the air raid, and the AF was lightly damaged. More AA units are marching to Kungchang right now - 4 more units in fact.
IJA aircraft continue to hammer exposed chinese troops near Kweiyang and even a chinese unit spotted NW of Yenen. Japanese Dive Bombers are making easy runs against these relatively defenseless units, chalking up kills and experience.
A Val chutai, operating from Clark Airfield, is using the trapped allied troops on the philippine islands as target practice and is slowly claiming kills.
The only ship sunk this turn was an allied AK which was hammered by Dive Bombers last turn. No new hits were scored, but the ship sunk anyways. An IJN AP struck a mine at Canton, but the damage is relatively light for a mine hit and under control.

Another day in the war... Unfortunately it is a good day for the allies... [:@]
The turn starts off with the last of the 1.5 Naval Guard units unloading on Canton Island. The fight was bloody for the IJA and then the IJA was screwed over by the game [;)]
Basically I have landed 90% of he 52nd Naval Guard and the complete 53rd Naval Guard units on Canton. In the combat they both showed up and fought - unfortunately they got mauled by the allied defenders and lost nearly 800 men... at the end of the turn I check the island. The main map screen shows the 52nd Naval Guard only, but when you click on it, it shows the 53rd Naval Guard. Effectively one of the Guard units has been completely wiped out with anything to show. I am hoping when the next turn is run the unit will reappear somewhere - anywhere, but I do not have much hope for this... Due to this fact, I have ordered the withdrawl from Canton onto the transports for a hasty retreat back to Kwajelein.
My MSWs continue clearing mines at Palau - I believe that is the last of them... At least none of them show on the map.
IJN I-154 catches an allied AK near Lautem and puts a torp into her. She was already smoking before the torp hit, so hopefully this will send the AK to the bottom.
Rob tried to raid Rangoon with 7 B-17s and 15 Liberators... It failed. He scored 3 runway hits, which damaged a couple Betties..
My nightly air raid on Akyab failed as well, scoring 1 Hurricane destroyed (4 damaged) and hitting the runway with only 15 bombs.
Kungchang sees heavy air combat again this turn. 15 RAF P-40s escort 13 RAF bombers and 5 CAF bombers in a raid - a dozen zeros met them. 1 Zero was shot down, while CAP and flak claimed 4 RAF bombers and 1 P-40. 3 allied planes escaped trailing smoke.
The men lost was low (65 men) and only 7 runway hits were scored.
My planes continue to hammer defenseless chinese units near Kwieyang and Yenen, gaining experience and scoring points.
IJN I-171 put 2 torps into DM Ramsay at Palmyra. Over 100 allied troops were lost as the ship sunk. IJN I-28 put a torpedo into AO Cuyama in the northern Pacific. The AO was burning as the sub crept away pursued by a single US DD.
Northern Pacific
I am now confident that Rob is up to something in the North Pacific - that is the second AO I have seen in the area. I have also spotted a couple TFs in the North Pacific. Intel is sketchy - but then when isn't japanese intel sketchy, on what the TFs are, but they seem to be stationary. My guess is whatever is there is refueling for a speed run at its target. The position it is in, it could hit Marcus Island - waste of bombs if you ask me - or strike at Japan. Either way, I now have 5 CVs in position to catch this TF if it moves further west. If it doesn't I will be encircling it next turn anyways... Best bet would be he moves forward and raids Japan - probably Tokyo harbor, losing a large number of fighters in the process.. leaving his CVs easy prey for my CVs.... I will be moving a large number of ships out of Yokyo harbor next turn, just in case... and getting all fighters on escort... and all bombers on naval attack..
IJA forces captured Tacloban base in the Philippines - leaving only 1 base left to be taken in my plans...

Glad to see this AAR returning [:D]
I think its the best one going to be honest and was a bit sad when you both seemed to fall off the planet a while back
So thanks for returning, really interesting things happening, hope you catch the US CV's near Japan , He has a long way to go back if they get hurt. maybe seed the possible retreat route with subs ?
Bad luck on the Canton invasion , but what do you do with all the 4th fleet inf units ? ~I have lots at Tokyo with nowhere really to go, I was saving them up for defence when the tide turns , is this a good idea ?
Anyway welcome back and good luck

Well work is keeping me busy but Rob & I are trying to get at least 1 turn in a day.. posting here is more difficulty than doing the turn... but oh well..
A dutch sub off Amboina surfaces and puts 2 torps and a shell into an IJN AP nearly sinking her. Lucky only supplies are left on board. In a miraclous shot, the AP claims a hit on the dutch sub with their deck gun. By the end of the day, the crew had abandoned ship and watched as it rolled over and sank.
The night raid on Lanchow claims 1 RAF bomber destroyed and 2 damaged, along with 38 men and 1 gun. The raid claims 1 airbase and 3 runway hits as well.
The night air raid on Mandalay went better. 1 RAF P-40 along with 2 RAF heavy bombers are reported destroyed and another bomber damaged. 20 RAF personel are reported hurt, along with 2 airbase and 8 runway hits. 2 IJ planes were damaged by flak.
IJN SS I-15 was spotted and attacked by 3 allied DMS. Several depth charges hit and the sub quickly sank.
A surprise allied air raid on Kendari caught most of the IJ fighters on the ground. Luckily the untrained RAF pilots cannot hit anything, although they claim 2 port fuel hits and 1 hit on the CL Nagara (lie). The 4 zeros on CAP and flak claim 2 Brewster fighters and 1 Hudson shot down, along with 3 more Hudson damaged.
The same Dutch sub surfaced again at Amboina and shelled another IJN AP. This time no torps hit the IJN ship, but at least 3 shells did, leaving the ship on fire.
IJN SS I-169 located an allied AK in the south pacific and put a torpedo into her, setting her ablaze.
IJA troops in china send more chinese troops retreating towards the interior today. The battle was brief with no Japanese losses, and 99 chinese troops killed or captured.
Members of the US 4th RCT landed at Marcus island in the early daylight hours via subs. The Americans were expecting little to no resistance and were mauled by the NLF and Base Force troops on the island. The battle was over quickly with no japanese losses - all Americans were killed or captured.

Well the nightly air war continues in china.
55 Sallies hit Kunming airfield, destroying 2 chinese fighters on the ground and damaging another. Nearly 100 chinese troops are also reported hit, along with 5 airbase, 1 supply and 8 runway hits.
24 Mary and 18 Sonia Dive Bombers struck the Lanchow AF. Only a single RAF bomber was reported destroyed, and the hits to the AF were minimal.
RAF bombers strike at Kungchang AF, landing 1 hit on the runways and wounding nearly 20 IJA troops. 2 RAF bombers were reported damaged by flak during the raid.
A fighter sweep over Kunming pitted 9 veteran zero pilots against 9 chinese rookies. The results were to be expected... all 9 zeros recieved no damage, while half of the chinese piltos were shot down.
A massive air battle happened at Kungchang. 18 allied bombers (12 RAF Hudsons and 6 Chinese bombers) escorted by 18 RAF P-40s attempted to bomb the AF - only 9 zeros wee on CAP. In the end 4 zeros, 1 Sonia and 2 Mary were destroyed (in air and on ground) along with 1 zero and 3 Sonia damaged. 1 P-40 was shot down and 2 Hudson and 1 chinese bomber were damaged. Nearly 100 IJA troops were hurt in the raids, along with 3 guns. The AF took a minor beating with 3 airbase, 2 supply and 18 runway hits.
IJN SS I-17 reportedly took a pair of depth charges, but upon further review, the damage was minimal.
IJN SS I-168 spotted a small US convoy and put 2 torps into an AK, leaving her ablaze and sinking.
B-17s from Port Moresby raided Rabaul flying extremely low. By the time the CAP caught up with them, they had already dropped their loads. In all 2 Zero and 2 Betties were destroyed, along with 1 zero and 5 more betty damaged. 2 B-17s were reported shot down and another 4 escaped with damage. Nearly 200 IJA troops were injured in the raid as well as the AF taking 1 supply and 9 runway hits.
A cut off chinese unit (67th/C Chinese Division) wondered into Hanoi attempting to escape north to freedom was surrounded and captured. The remains of the unit, 54 men, quickly surrendered as the Japanese troops attacked.

Late March
From what I can read, you guys are in a quiet period of the game: not too many bases changing hands. Certainly the Japanese want to complete the conquest of Sumatra--but then do you think you have enough to establish the defensive perimeter?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

It has slowed way down for several reasons...
1. Lots of my CVs or CV TF units have 10+ damage or are undergoing refit for extra AA - which I need
2. Not much left to capture on my initial plans - except Java and Sumatra
3. I want to see what Rob is doing with his 4-5 CVs he has now, as well as what he is reinforcing in the
South Pacific
Right now my expansion is not done.. but I have most of my perimeter and now just need to get my newly arrived Base Forces filled out and moved into position to get AFs and Forts built up. I have several more large plans brewing and am either waiting for Divisions to get freed up or waiting for CV assets to be repaired... Two major plans...
1. Invasion of India
I plan to use 2-3 CVs to spearhead an amphibious invasion of India or perhaps even Ceylon. I believe it is lightly defended by air assets only, as Rob seems to have concentrated about 80% of his entire Indian troops in Akyab and the rest mostly at Mandalay and Lashio - probably to prevent my invasion of India via the rails [at least according to spotted movements and intel]
I believe 2 divisions could land and take Ceylon as well as several key bases in India itself, stealing valuable industry and resource / oil production.. This will also cause Rob to have to move all the way from Akyab to counter attack, as my northern front in Burma at Rangoon is quite secure unless he brings 4+ divisions against it... Which he doesn't have that many combat ready troops in India
I'm quite sure Rob has 6+ Chinese Div/Corps mixed in with his troops along this line, but they are not worth much at this point in time - just a drain on his supplies.
Before I go to India I will need to take Andaman Island, which Rob has a least part of an Indian Bde there - bombed them a few times. He has also built the AF up to at least lvl 2 so I can base fighters there... Thanks Rob..
2. Invasion of Western OZ
This is the most ambitious move of the two and cannot even begin until I have all of Sumatra captured as I cannot let him spot the move.. I'm sure he is even now moving fuel / supplies down the west edge of the map to Oz and I have nothing but a few subs out there to stop him right now...
I plan on landing 1-2 Divisions of troops on Oz and taking several industrial bases and then retreating, leaving behind a token force. The goal here is to cause him to worry about the safety of Oz as well as taking industry and resources away from him... Any counterattack from the North or East will take a long time to reach the western bases and slow him down even more... giving me more time to prepare for the US assault.

It would have normally, but the unit was retreating eastward out of Vietnam and did not trigger a militia deployment - the unit already did trigger one when it was going westward.
Currently I have 3 Vietnamese Militia Divisions - none of them over 40% strength. I have 1 pursuing some chinese units north of Hanoi and the other 2 filling out in Hanoi itself for the push north.

All right guys. Time to get caught up.. So I'm posting a post to covering the past 10 days or so...
Allied Ships lost:
1 TK, 5 DD, 2 MSW, 1 SS, 6 AK
Allied Ships Damaged:
1 AO, 11 AK, 3 SS, 1 MSW, 2 TK, 1 AP, 1 CLAA
IJN Ships Lost:
2 SS (I-class)
IJN Ships Damaged:
2 SS (I-class)
Allied Bases Captured:
Guinan, Namlea, Tarakan, Bulla, Sansapor, Sinkep Island
Areas of Interest:
South Pacific
The South Pacific is heating up quite a bit and I am surprised I have not seen any allied CVs in the area. Ever my failed invasion of Canton Island and his taking of Baker Island I have been running a Bombardment TF back and forth from Tarawa hitting both Baker Island - where I killed a few patrol planes and killing some men - the raids on Canton have been more fruitful - catching lots of men and some marine planes - mostly patrol, some wildcats and some SBDs.
I have hit both islands at least twice and am planning on continuous harrassment of Canton. I move within 5 hexes the turn before and then run in under darkness and hammer the airfields - so far Rob's planes have not launched a single attack against my ships - part of it may be as I am running LR CAP over the ships from Tarawa and without fighters his planes probably won't attack the TF
I also brought down a 3 CV TFs into the area and have been hunting enemy TFs east of Baker and Canton... I was not that lucky until the past copuple turns... I caught a small TF of 5 DDs running towards Baker Island (I think - only target near where I caught them) and sunk 4 of them... Surprise.. surprise they were carrying troops !!! Over 500 men from the 25th US Division met a watery grave... The next turn I darted south towards Canton as my subs had detected several TFs heading west towards Canton.
SW Pacific
So far its been slow.. My subs (based from Rabaul and Truk) have hit a few ships moving back and forth from PM and OZ, but nothing major yet - just some merchies. My LR bombers from Rabaul have caught some AKs delivering supplies to PM and beat up on them - but the real surprise there was my zeros beating up on the CAP at PM.
China
China is still a mess... Luckily the mess is in my favor.. Rob has been bombing Hong Kong and Bangkok with LR bombers, going after Manpower. So far he has been scoring 5+ manpower hits per turn, but so far no real damage has been scored. I have repair manpower off and have not lost a manpower point yet.. So intel in that area is terrible.
I have men moving to Lanchow to begin softening him up..
I captured a chinese Air Base force and am about to have several more units cutoff from retreat in central china.
Burma / India
Another stalemate. I have not pushed north from Rangoon yet as I only have 2 divisions there - nowhere near enough to try to take on Burma. I have been using my LR bombers at Rangoon to harrass shipping into Akyab and tend to raid Diamond Harbor / Chandpur / ect... port every 5 or 6 days. I don't get many kills, but I do damage merchies in every raid... My fighters are also chewing up british fighters in the area..
SRA
I have landed a regiment of paratroopers at Palembang and have just landed some backup troops and hope to take the base in the next couple days. So far there is only an engineering unit in defense..
My subs have been picking off british TKs NW of OZ.. So far I have crippled 2-3 TKs and sunk a couple as well. I have also sunk an escorting british DD and put a torp into a british CLAA
OVERALL
Overall I am doing good - but not as good as I could be.. I have tons of base units sitting in Tokyo doing nothing - although only a few are at 100% strength. I am slowly moving them out to bases I want to build up.
I am also moving my rested units out of the Philippines (they are finally at 100%). They are heading south to Kendari and are preparing for an invasion of Timor. I also have a division landing at Tarawa where they will regain some fatigue and then they will invade Canton - wrestling it from Rob...
Rob has been landing some commandoes at a few islands south of Tarawa (recapturing them) and I will be landing NLFs there - as a permanent solution to his commandoes. I am also preparing an invasion of Palmyra island - the troops are almost 100% prepared. Last intel report from there indicated little to no US activity - except for some patrol planes..

1 April 42
Allright... this is the latest turn from Rob...
I have more troops landing at Palembang and I have ordered another attack on the base. My men will be resupplied from the TFs and I hope to take the base - there has to be a ton of oil sitting there waiting for shipment to the Home Islands..
My night time air raid on Kunming has lost me 1 Sally, but destroy 1 I-16c, 5 Hudson I and 1 Blenheim IV. They also crater the runway and kill some men.
Allied air raid on Amboina (13 B-17Es) hit nothing.
My daylight air raid on Lanchow airfield was also successful. 2 Marys were lost, and 1 Ann, 6 Sonia and 3 Sally were damaged. They claim 1 P-40E destroyed on the ground (he had no CAP). They also claim 37 men and beat the hell out of the airfield: 48 airbase, 8 supply and 125 runway hits (2 raids). Lanchow has actual damage on her runway after the daily repair phase and the lack of fighters is a good thing... Maybe Rob has given up the sky over Northern China.
My air raids on chinese troops claim 150 men and 1 gun.
My CV TF NE of Canton locates a large allied TF and attacks - 15 zeros escort 56 Vals and 59 Kates on the free run - no CAP... 1 Val and 1 Kate were shot down as well as 7 total planes damaged. They sunk 1 AK and 1 DD escort and damaged 2 more DDs and 3 more AKs.. Not all that surprising, the AKs are carrying troops... Over 400 men of the 25th US Division drown in the Pacific waters - add that with the men from the failed DD TF, I have killed over a 1000 men from this division...
I just hope I can finish off the TF before it makes port at Canton, or I will never take the island from Rob.. I have ordered the CV TF a little closer to Canton (but still out of his SBD range) as well as ordered my bombardment TF in the area back to sea heading for Canton to catch any ships at port.
That is about it for the turn, other than I have 4 divisions of men at Lanchow and am bombarding the defenders. More men and arty is on the way there. I hope to take the base by end of the April.. I count roughly 20 chinese units at the base... If I can force them into the wilderness I will own Northern China.

I am at work right now, but will finish my current turn and post some screen shots when I get home tonight..

Update
I am at work and do not have access to my notes nor the game itself, so I am posting some info from memory..
Lanchow
I have 4-6 divisions at Lanchow along with 1 Arty unit. they are lobbing shells as fast as possible at the chinese defenders. I am currently causing 100+ casualties per day while loosing none of my own men.
I also have complete control of the air now. Rob has a few chinese fighters in the area, but I have not seen a P-40 for almost a week - he has pulled them all into Central / Southern China to support his air raids on Bangkok and Hong Kong. I am currently bombing the airfield at Sining to shut it down (and waste chinese supplies). Then my bombers will concentrate on the defenders at Lanchow. The base will most likely be worthless to me (oil will probably be mostly destroyed), but I will either kill / capture / or drive 160k chinese troops into the jungle / mountains where they can die.
Palembang
I have captured the Grand Daddy of Oil.. I have captured it relatively intact as well. I believe out of the 700 oil production it has only like 50 damage !! My oil plans are great.. Palembang will produce enough oil by itself to feed 25% of my industry - Now I just need to ship it home and protect it from the evil Allies...
The damage to the base is minor - 1 manpower and like 30 resources are damaged as well - I plan on repairing all the oil as well as the manpower point and will repair the resources if supplies allow in the future. I have a base force there already - helped in the landing and they have already begun expanding the port and airfield. I doubt very much that I will need any real defenders here, but plan on keeping at least 1 NLF and some base forces to keep the oil pumping and keep Rob's sub commandoes away.
Rangoon
Rangoon is slowly expanding its airfield and port and next turn I'll finally have an AS there to reload my subs - this will save 3-4 days on sub transitting to Singapore and back. I will now have 4-6 subs in the Indian Ocean fulltime with little turn around time needed. Rangoon has plenty of fuel and supplies to support my subs forever...
Timor
The first load of troops planning for the invasion of Timor are on there way to Kendari - where they will fully prepare and wait for additional troops before invading. I plan on hitting both allied bases on Timor (East and West ends) at the same time to limit his air response. I also plan on having having fighter CAP on the invasion to keep the bombers in Oz from playing.
OZ
My subs are still hitting ships moving around northern Oz.. I just sunk a TK this last turn - which I believe was full of fuel coming from India (it was moving South). I am also tracking a large convoy of merchies which is probably carrying men or supplies. Hopefully I'll get some hits on them.
South East Pacific
Well my 3 CVs are about 360 miles east of Canton looking for more allied ships carrying men and supplies to Canton... I have subs coming behind my TF and they have spotted a new TF to the north. The TF is showing 10 ships, including several CAs and merchies.. The CVs will be directed north to strike at this TF.. I doubt that it is full of Merchies as Rob knows my CVs are in the area, so I expect either warships or perhaps the long lost US CVs.... I have 3 full wings of planes and they are well rested now (no attacks this turn) and all at like 98% strength (have lost a couple planes while bombing the DD TF)... Either way I plan on sending all bombers and 1/2 my fighters at the enemy TF, keeping the rest on CAP just in case.. Hopefully the battle will be far enough away from Canton that he can't draw on any air support from the island...
My replenishment TF is like 200 miles from this unknown TF and is turning around, heading back to Tarawa.. Hopefully Rob did not spot it on his turn, or it may be in trouble..
Not a whole lot more is going on.. I have several still in the planning stages and have dozens of ships undergoing repair and refit back in Japan - at least a dozen DDs are getting new and improved AA weapons and will actually give me a basic amount of flak support for my ships - in October, Rob will leap ahead of me again, but right now with the right ships we have almost even AA support. Now I just have to wait for the ships to be repaired before sending them out again...

RE: Update
Here is a screenshot of the northern half of the SRA. As you can see there is a lot of traffic between Saigon and Singapore - mostly fuel, supply and men being moved to singapore in preparations for the full invasions of Sumatra.
You can also see that Palembang is mine and I have over 40 zeros there keeping its precious oil fields safe.

RE: Update
Here is a screenshot of the Amboina area, including Sorong. Right now Amboina and Sorong are at 100% oil production and Amboina has already been bombed from Darwin a couple times. I plan on not repairing any damage to Amboina - its to easy to bomb and very exposed - and hope that Rob forgets about Sorong - which has as much oil production as Amboina does.

RE: Update
Here is a screenshot of the Canton Area. As you can see I have Rob's TF spotted and intel says 6 CA and 1 CV. Whether or not its true, I am moving north with my CVs and will attack it. We will see... Next turn should be interested...

RE: Update
Thanks for the screenshots, I appreciate it very much. I know that it is easier to play than to report what you are doing
Got some hints for my own PBEM as Allies. The next turn should be indeed very interesting (Canton area).
RE: Update
I am currently at work and have checked my mail and a nice turn is awaiting me.... I am going to die from anxiety.. I have a chance to bag one (or more) of Rob's CVs and I have to wait another 5 hours before I can get home and run the turn... Argh !!!! If I was able, I would leave work early and go home now... but alas, I cannot...
Oh well.. it should be a very exciting turn - at least if our CVs engage.
