Question regarding OZ not being frozen

Post by Mr.Frag »

Any particular reason the zones to the south of Oz are unlocked?

I noticed them and found that by shifting the transports around, one can bridge right up to India which allows you to shift all assets up to the Med making short work of Germany's efforts there. The combo of India/Oz throws an extra 6 units into the mix (+3 per turn) and there is nothing that Germany can do about this back door unless they get a miracle set of rolls in the Eastern Med on turn 1 and can kneecap the Brits before it is too late.

For that matter, anyone found a way of countering this? Japan can't help out without jumping the Yanks due to frozen zones. Takes way to long to get German subs around Africa.

Dumb question: what is Oz?

If you are referring to Australia and NZ, those were of course active in 1939 and along with India actually provided a high percentage of the troops for the North African campaign.

Good catch. Just 2 hours ago Gary added code to do exactly this as we try to improve the AI. Austrailia provided troops to the UK effort against Germany, so they should be free to move. Players not using these troops are missing out.

Oh, I have no problem with them does so, it just struck me that as it sits right now it is far too simple to do so right off the bat before Germany can even get the ball rolling.

I would have expected to at least have to produce a transport or two before being able to assemble this lifeline.

Guess I have to get used to the game starting post '39. All the prep works already done.

Humm My experience was in one game, that once Japan was active, it took out North, East and West Oz fast...

So moving all the OZ troops out might be a problem unless one shores up OZ defenses right off when Japan becomes active vs WA

Same here. I can see how Australia can easily fall to the Japanese if the Brits empty it to reinforce North Africa.

Oh, I don't do it for long, just a couple of turns to deal with Germany trying to mess with Africa then back they go.

Hmm, I remember in some games I did reshuffle transports in the Indian Ocean and brought troops from Australia to ME. I too think it should be possible, but I think it already is possible, so I don't exactly see what is the problem and what is it that needs changing?

Not a problem as such, but it certainly kneecaps Germany's ambitions in Africa. Adding those 6 units + the fighter into Africa + 3 militia a turn from production there means no chance in hell ... Had 1 more of the transport zones been frozen, it would require far more work to set things up instead of turn Spring '40.

Just feeling sorry for Germany once again [:D]

It just means Germany has to take Cairo ASAP. Once you get an artillery unit there, and your subs operating in the Red Sea and southwards, the problem is (temporarily) solved. [:)]
