If you don't, they will give their lives trying to stave off the damage as the shells come in.

Where do you come up with this stuff, Ray? I can't think of many (any?) examples of troops that would forsake cover to "stave off damage as shells come in." I'd like to see some examples here which would support this statement.

You're right Ron but on the other hand non-combat units are lousy regarding trenches and shelters in all armies... that is until their first havey bombing, when they usually become very active in building them. You can find numerous examples of this behaviour in WWII.

BTW, has anyone ever read a personnal account of the bombing of Henderson Field by IJN BBs ? It should have been a fearful experience and from what I remember reading there was some "confusion" during the bombing, as military call that. I can fully understand that, now people are provided with psychological support after experiences far less dangerous and nerve-shaking.

Ron, quit being a space cadet please. You have read the manual right?

Support troops are *exposed* during airfield and port attacks.

Been that way forever. They are considered soft targets, rear area grunts. They take the brunt of the abuse.

Combat units are dispersed and defend better.

Coming out and catching the shells was a joke ... perhaps you need a smoke [8|][:D][X(]

I'm sorry. I just had a flash the guys of my Base Force on Jolo exposing themselves to Erstads TF of battleships as they pull up to bombard.

There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.
