Weird one: 0 military units Su 1940

Me and another noob playing a PBEM game. He's germany, I'm japan.
He just played his second turn, sent me the save for my second turn.

I load up the save game. I see 0 units on the screen. I hit the
"military units" button and it shows 0 units for all countries.

I then replay his turn, just to see what is going on. His turn goes
fine until the end, at which point all units disappear.

Something is amiss here. Needless to say, I have not played my turn.

COuld this have happened if my opponent patched his game to the new
version while I did not? Mine is still the version from the CD. Maybe
there is a mismatch?

(I tried to upload the save game to this post .. how?)

Yep, you need the patch.
