How good is World at War.....

Post by X_MasterDave_X »

....compared with other WW2 Games.

I like to play WW2 Games, since 20 Years or so. Played in several Boardgames. And on numerous Games on Computers. I liked, Clash of Steel, but I liked also easier Games like "Axis and Allies".

The last Years i played much time "Hearts of Iron", and since January i play "Hearts of Iron 2". I love this Games, because of their difficulty.

If someone knows HoI......how good is World at War compared with this Game, and others like the old Axis&Allies ????

What is better or worse in this Game ?

As i heard about this new Game i was immediately interested, but the Map with this few provinces shocked me. I love HoI2 and his complexity.....In HoI2 Germany has about 20 Provinces or so...

Is WaW only a new Axis and Aliies Clone ???

If you liked axis and allies, then you should like this one quite a bit.

In certain respects it's like A&A but in others, such as supplies and better limits on production, this far surpasses the game.

This game has a fun quality that leaves you with the 'one more turn' feeling each time you play.

GGWAW is a truely great game.

The combat system and general model of combat, economics, production, etc of the WWII period is elegant, simple yet accurate.

In my current game, I'm getting a nifty replay of the Battle of Britain with the AI trying to stop my air interdiction of his transports (I'm playing as the Axis). Its an air war over France and Britain.

For the heck of it, I started up an all AI game and witnessed a near perfect re-enactment of the Stalingrad encirclement in 1942. Not too shabby.

It's excellent but beware, it can be extremely addictive[X(]. I've had it since release and i've just scratched the surface, so much depth.

This is a true statement. [8D] This game keeps you wanting more, like a good book that you can't put down. The game has a simple appearance, but playing it is like peeling an onion, with each layer you peel away you find something new that makes the game more Intriguing. You can set the game up to be as simple or as complex as you like. You can select standard supply rules and let the AI take care of production leaving you to concentrate on military strategy, or you can turn on advanced supply rules and really excert control over every thing, and handle production yourself. There is something for everyone in this game, and from my past experience with Matrix Games, it will only get better.

I think everyone that likes HOI or axis&allies will like this game. sure there may be a few things people would like added/changed here or there, but for what it is, I highly doubt anyone would feel it wasn't worth the money.

The only thing that I would say was a negative, was there were a few CTD issue and other bugs. 2by2 really stepped up to the plate and addressed the majority of these issues in the first patch. I'd almost say that other software companies should use their customer service and level of support as a model of how it should be done.

WaW is more complex than Axis & Allies but probably less complex than HOI2. I say "probably" because I personally don't think HOI2 is all that complex. On a complexity scale, I'd rate A&A a 1, WaW a 4, HOI2 a 5, and War in the Pacific a 10.

I would rate WITP "I have no life" level of complexity. hehe

If you start off with supply off, you can play it pretty much it like Axis and Allies, building units and moving them around freely. I have played that way at all levels, and is the only way to play on "impossible' I've found. On 'easy' level you should be mopping up handily after a couple of games.

Once you get the movement and production down ou can move to simple suply with "bonus supply" so you have to worr about how much supply but not micromange getting it where needed. Once you master that you can go to Advanced supply.

My 13 year old son just likes playing with supply off, on easy and seeing how it takes him to "conquer the world" and try to
beat his record". He will only play me (and get waxed ;) ) if Ithen let him clean my clock at Halo2...

I might have to take that approach with my kids. I got my 5 year old the PSP with a simple 3d monkey capturing game. she is only 5 and yet does slightly better than me at itand I'm the one with 20 years of gaming!

Therefore I'll bide my time and wait till she understands what ww2 is. I'll teach her a thing or two then! [evil]hehehe[/evil]
