Manual needed

Post by Scott_WAR »

Ok, its becoming painfully clear that I need the manual. Having the .pdf doesnt cut it, because I can not look at the map at the same time as I look at important info in the manual. I know you can take the .pdf file to kinko's and get a manual printed, but some of us dont live anywhere near a kinko's or similiar business. We really need the option to buy a manual.

I have seen some games that you have, which give the option to order a printed manual and have it delivered. Since the game was not available when it was supposd to be in the retail stores, many who were going to buy it retail, instead opted to get it through DD. I know I was one of them, and I would be willing to bet that others would like to buy a printed manual also.

I am not 100% sure, but I think you can download some software from kinkos site and print it from your computer to their printers, and then they can mail it to your house. This might cost you some extra money though as doing this all in-store (2-pages per paper, spiral bound) cost me $13.

Can't you just print the pdf file ? That's what I did, just add some spiral binding and it's near perfect [:D]

[:)]We can't say we weren't warned[;)] to get the retail version. I agree that the manual is crucial to easing the player into the game. This game for some reason has taken me the longest to get comfortable with whereas War In The Pacific was a cakewalk. I got the dd and finally got my "retail" copy for the manual...finally...i'm getting somewhere[8|][:D].

That's very interesting. You're not the first to mention having trouble getting "comfortable" with this game. I had/am having a helluva time getting into WITP and yet found this game very easy. Maybe my attention span is not long enough anymore to play WITP.[;)] I'd be interested to hear what you do for a living and what your thoughts on this are.

The key to Witp is playing it in large enough chunks of time to keep the flow going(and your memory[;)]), other than that the interface and basic idea is just like the boardgames i used to play except without "chits". WAW has an awkward feel to me, at least at first, it's not enough to be an experienced wargamer (with little patience for learning new things). Once the relationship between resources/production/population AND the intertwined research started to make sense i was able to see the big picture. The fact that they are all tied together, eg: the plus/minus scaling effect, is probably what stunned me for awhile.
What do i do for a living? That's a tough one because as i have found out from my experience with my kids elementary school exposure, anything i say will be twisted or misconstrued[:(]. I recently sold my last business to spend time with my Mother who was dying of cancer. That was a year and a half ago, i've been spending my time volunteering at my kids school and playing Matrix games, golfing and browsing this forum between cigars. I'll be 43 April 24th and if i keep this up i'll be able to say "I'm retired" when i hit 50 without getting all the shocked[X(] looks and shallow friends[:(]. Oh, and i used to play sports here in the good old USA...I'm 6'7" 311 lbs and no "girlie man"[8D][:D].

Ah. That's the problem I have with WITP, large chuncks of time to play...[:(] I'm an old time boardgamer myself, just turned 40. Congrats on retiring early (sad reason though). Funny how the mind works. I just downloaded the BiN demo and am having a hard time learning the mechanics, which are exactly like the old cardboard battles I was good at. I'm a mechanical engineer so you'd think could follow some simple rules...Oh well, I'll chalk it up to years or beers. [8D]

Good luck and have fun.

Oh, and the manual is good but playing is better![:D]

I'm getting the hang of things without the manual now, I only check it about once a day for usually only one specific rule. no question that it would be helpful to have it printed out, but I couldn't wait until retail, so I accept that as my own fault.

I'm sure after another couple weeks we'll all have the rules fairly well memorized.

The Ardennes battle in BiN is a pretty hairy start, the small scenarios with the full game make the process MUCH easier. It is alot like the games we are used to and a couple times through and you'll have no problems as there's no "production spiral" and "population points"...you get "replacements"[X(]...easy huh?[;)] Winning is another thing with BiN[8D], that takes practice.

The American Society of Psychology is studying the impact of Schizophrenia in war gaming.

They're citing the recent example of many W@W players owning 2 copies of the game.

From a recent journal:

"They say it's to own the printed manual but we know it's a Freudian excuse for something much deeper".
