Problems With France Attack

Post by randell765 »

Just throwing a question out there,
Every time, and I mean every time(on normal difficulty), I attack france, I always lose a tank, and I mean always, did I mention always? This has got to be a serious bug. And yes, I have tried different ways of attacking. At first, just 7 tanks, no good, I lose 1-2 tanks. then I tried softening France up with an air attack, no good, still lose 1-2 tanks. Then i tried an air attack and then a tank attack with 1 bomber in the attack also, no good, lose 1-2 tanks.

And lastly, I tried air attack to soften them up, 7 tanks and 1 plane with 1 air born paratrooper. GREAT NEWS, I lost only 1 tank.......and 1 paratrooper. I thoughtI would test this theory and I tried this scenario out, 20 times, yep, I wasted an hour or 2 doing this battle over, and over and over and over and over. If I lose 1-2 tanks 20 out of 20 times, and bear with me, I'm no mathematician, but I came up with 100%.

Does something seem wrong with this????? If I just attack with 7 tanks then yes, mabey I'll lose 1-2. If I soften them up with air attacks and then attack with 7 tanks, ok, mabey I will lose 1 tank 50% on a lucky hit. BUT AN AIR ATTACK WITH AIR SUPPORT AND A PARATROOPER AND & 7 TANKS??????? 20 out of 20?????????????????????

Seems like an unrealistic expectation on the part of the defender. Joel or Gary, could you please fix this on the next patch? Thank you.

If you are working from a save, then the "die rolls" are preset so doing a turn over and over will not lead to an advantage. SO saving teh game before the battle and redoing it over and over leads to the same result to remove a potential replay cheat.

If you are starting the game over from scratch, and teh complaint is the result is always 1 or 2 loses, then that is based on math. On normal, the expected result of sending 7 armor and 4 bombers is 1,2 or rarely - 0, or 3 casulaites. That is jsut the range of results based on teh attack dice and defense of the units involved.

I've seen losses of three tanks once, never 0 units though.

With only one tech level difference (german tank evasion = 7, allied attack = 6) five infantry & one artillery should be able to get in a hit, even if some are distracted by firing at air units.

I usually have 0 (zero) losses in France.

Here's how.

1) Stuka first from WG (kill or damage arty in France)
2) 1 bomber at a time from Germany (that way they wont try to kill same target but rather damage two separate units) That makes on average 2, sometimes 3 units gone from france.
3) Roll in with 4 or 5 tanks max, = no casualties.

Not "guaranteed" to keep casualties to zero, but probably 6 of 10 times I would say.

Also, this way you save on supply. No need to send the extra armor extended movement if not necessary. Those 2 to 4 supply can be used to repair the factories in France.

I would say a good open for Germany should net you Low countries, France, Denmark, Norway and Yugoslavia - turn one. You should be able to repair all the resources and a couple factories in France. You could go for more (i.e. Greece) but it would be unduly risky....

i've had zero causalties I think twice. both time required eliminating the artillery with air before the tanks rolled in.

The first three times I played Germany, I rolled into France with nothing but the 7 tanks and no air strikes. These 3 all resulted in no casualties.

On my fourth game, I had one tank destroyed.

There is enough of a random factor here that it is hard to judge from a sample size of only a single digit number of games.
