Still crashing

Post by robbrking »

Even though I have had problems since I bought the game I have not posted yet because I was waiting for the patch. I was able to get farther than ever before after loading the patch, I actually made it almost completely through one turn. Before that I would never even get to China's turn. My symptoms are always the same, I will be watching the computer AI moving troops, attacking, etc. and the game will crash. Not with an error (Windows needs to close this program...), the game just quits and I am back at the desktop in total frustration. I have uploaded my dxdiag file, please help. Thanks

Hi, please update your graphic card and sound card drivers. Both are very old.

Well, i have the same problem. And i do have the latest drivers. Do you have trouble with PCI-E based graphics cards?

Updated my GeForce4 driver (it was VERY old), I still have the latest driver for my sound card. When I run the game I still have the exact same crashing problem. Randomly exits to the windows desktop without an error or warning. Glad to see I am not the only one with problems. My video card is AGP, not PCI Express so I wouldn't think the crashing problem is related to that architecture.

> Sound Blaster PCI 512

It maybe due to the sound card, it´s a very old one and I´m not sure if it is fully DirectX compatible.

Well, since you said that my soundblaster PCI512 card may be too old I decided to upgrade to a better sound card. So I went to CompUSA and bought a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card. Now I can get almost through the first turn before it crashes. This time I actually get an error: "An unknown error occurred in 'Morgan Stream Switcher'". With this sound card purchase this game keeps getting more expensive. Any ideas?

Robbrking,

I'm sorry to hear your problems are continuing. Unfortunately, we didn't realize you were about to buy a new card or we would have advised thinking twice on the Audigy 2 as some variants of that card are known to have issues with many games. With that said, it may work well for you. I'm guessing you installed the drivers that came in the box, which are dated October 2004 based on your new DxDiag. Please check the manufacturer's site for more up to date driver. Install them and see if that helps.

When you installed the new card, did you uninstall any software or drivers that came with the old card first? Did you install any software _other than_ drivers that came with the new card? I'm trying to figure out this "Morgan Stream Switcher" error, which doesn't ring a bell. We'll search and see if we can turn something up on that.

I have a system that WaW runs fine on (PCI-Express), so I installed Morgan Stream Switcher and gave WaW a try.

I ran two identical test, playing as germany and the rest being the AI. Each time the game crashed during the Western Allies turn.

I uninstalled Morgan Stream Switcher from the control panel and the game works fine again. I'm not sure how Morgan Stream Switcher got on your system, but I hope it appears under add/remove programs so you can remove it.

veritech,

According to your DxDiag you also have Morgan Stream Switcher installed. Can you try uninstalling it?

EspenJ, Can you attach your DxDiag?

Graphic card drivers are out of date, also make sure to update the nForce chipset drivers. And keep in mind the comments in this forum about 3rd party codecs and Code Packs like "Nimos Codec Pack" or "Ace Mega Pack), I note you have plenty of codecs installed.

I have updated my video card driver and unstalled the one codec pack I could find that had an uninstall option. If you think I need to uninstall more codecs, could you tell me where I would do that and which ones to uninstall? to the best of my knowledge, I have never installed any. The ones I have must have been installed when other programs installed on my computer.

You mentioned updating the nForce chipset drivers. What is that exactly?

By the way, I also get the same error message and crash with War in the Pacific so it is critical I find out the problem and fix it. I could live without WorldAtWar but I can't live without WitP.

Attached, please find an updated DxDiag.

Damien,

You're DxDiag file shows you have Morgan Stream Switcher codec. Is it listed under "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel? Can you uninstall it.

Lol the problem I have with updating video and sound card drivers, it screws up "other games" just to get one new game to work. What a pain in the butt these drivers are becoming.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?
