RE: Massive assault againts Manila has started...

Post by Rob Brennan UK »

Great AAR by the way [:)]. sinxce no-ones posted any replies recently I thought i'd add my 2c for a wee bit of encouragement. First off DO NOT even think of landing at Tokyo its the main re-inforcemnt arrival base for the japs and will have huge amouts of troops there repairing/rebuilding etc.

I have just started by first Pbem as allies recently so I now undrestand your dilemma a bit better . Building up is good but isn't it a bit early to talk of counterattacking yet? also hows the supply situation in China ? I seem to have starvation levels at most of my bases there.

anyway i'm rambling again. and cant think of any useful stuff atm .

So good luck again and p.s do you fancy playing japs when 1.5 comes out ? I'm now hooked on pbem and cant get enough [:D]

Japanese troops capture Soerebaja...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 22nd of March 1942

Rob: Thanks for the comments again. You are absolutely right about Tokyo.. It's too early to think offensive there unless I get intelligence that confirms that he has moved a lot of troops out of there. He has now 170000 troops sieging Manila and that city will fall soon.. thus I will loose 90000 troops that are trapped there.

I'am actually thinking about going in offensive in the South Pacific if he chooses to attack India. I have quite a lot of troops down here and I have solid forward bases (Canton, Palmyra, Noumea...) ..I think I could capture good bases where to build up airfield and start bombing Rabaul/Truk/Marianas... This actually might be possible.

I have now build up 5 TF that contain Royal Navy ships.. 2 Air Combats and 3 Surface TF's. Those will move into intercept if he has plans for India. I don't know how much damage those can make but it should be force to reckon with. These forces are at Bombay and Karachi.

There are also AK's and Tankers heading towards Australia.. They are pretty much inside safety and those ships should bring additional supplies to Australia from India. I have now stockpiled quite a lot of supplies in to the cities of Australia.

British Burma army continues their movement towards Ledo.. and from there I will start to think their next assingment. I will have to take hard look at the strengths of my coastal defenses.

Japanese are now trying to isolate those Chinese troops defending Mandalay.. I wohn't let that happen and if he tries to circle them I will move most of them out towards Myithkina.

DEI is a lost cause.. Japanese captured Soerebaja last turn and are now moving towards Batavia.. Hopefully those troops can put up for an fight! We will find that out soon enough!

The supply situation in China isn't that good.. I still have Burma road open and I will fly additional supplies but that doesn't do too much help. I think he is planning major offensive here too.. he has brought additional troops to the frontlines or at least I think so.. and that is not good news indeed.. we will have to see how this developes.. It could actually be disaster but I'm hoping for delaying his advance and that will buy me more time.

Btw, how is your PBEM started as allies??? It's tricky to find the balance with solid defense and good offense.. heh, I doubt I will take a crack at Japanese side.. I have never even looked their strenghts againts AI and I think It would take a lot of time to get used to it.. but never say never as the saying goes.. I doubt my missus would be too happy about that decision [:(]

Here are few combat reports again:

[font="Times New Roman"]Btw, how is your PBEM started as allies??? It's tricky to find the balance with solid defense and good offense.. heh, I doubt I will take a crack at Japanese side.. Its very confusing to be honest . As I have only ever played japs before against the AI . Still very early and I'm holding burma at mandalay. I moved the rangoon stuff elsewhere ( in case joe reads this :):) . But I have no clue as what to do in China or where is best to defned the philippines , I have forces in all 3 bases manilla/clarke/bataan with good supply levels is i raided the PI with suicide AK's :)

china is holding up so far but its only week 2 i think :) .. PH escaped lightly with 2 bb's sunk and the rest at worst 50 sys damage. I am learning to hate US subs , and love the Dutch and Brit ones :) . did a nice ambush yesterday with the POW and the dutch/american CL's from the DEI . Met a 4 Jap CA group and sunk the Aobe with a magazine hit from a 14" shell ..[:D]. took no damage at all in reply too ..

I've lost the KB :( but some jap cvl's are roaming the DEI .. We are just having a practise game till 1.5 arrives so it's a very useful learning experience. and I am thoroughly enjoying it , so much better than vs the AI. Playing Silent hunter 3 between turn , Its a dam good game if your interested in sims.

Anyway I could ramble all day .. I'm impressed with the speed of your game , are you playing 2 day turns ? or just very fst turn around ?.

Bye from sunny London

Japanese continue assaulting Manila...

Post by aztez »

Rob: China can be painful and it is not easy to judge where to hold the line. I have put up defensive perimeter around Yenen, Homan, Ichang, Road Junction near Changsa and Kweiyang. To be honest my opponent hasn't moved in to mount huge offensive againts that line.. allthough one seems to be coming soon.. (more about that later on)

The supply situation isn't good for me either... I have some sort of a stock in "rear" China but frontline troops could use some more ammunition. I don't know how you can manage in here.. since I do not want move my Bombers out of India since India itself is under threat.. I guess the only way to help Chinese is to keep the Burma Road open and fly in as much you can.

I don't know which is the best strategy for PHI. I should have fought at Bataan in this PBEM more aggressively.. but than again those troops could have been cut off.. and would have been easy kills for Japanese. Well, having said that the fall of Manila will happen very soon in this PBEM.

Congrats, on the surface combat victory! Those are valuable ships you were able to sunk! I'm still keeping my Royal Navy docked in Bombay and Karachi.

I have played SH sim's earlier version.. but undoubtely I don't have that much spare time on my hand due to work and family related issues.

We are playing 2 day turns.. I know Vorsteher isn't always too happy about that... but I like it because the game goes ahead faster and you can't micro manage everything that is happening. Usually we are able to manage 1 turn per day.. There have been days that we have managed more turns.

Here is how situation stands...

Game date is 26th of March 1942

Heavy fighting in Manila continues.. According to the Japanese sources there are soon over +200000 Japanese troops assaulting the capital city. Allied troops are putting up desperate and brave resistance... To be honest the hope is running out for these guys. If I could hold it even few weeks than I would consider this a miracle.

In DEI allied aircraft spotted 3 transport TF sailing towards Batavia (propably the destination).. It seems Japanese are getting ready to wipeout all the resistance in Java. Unfortunately I do not have any planes which to use againts these ships so it is down to the Dutch subs try to sink few of them.

Homan is under heavy attack. It seems he has stacked a lot of troops in this sector!!! He promised that this would be coming and now it seems he has started. At least he well over 100000 troops there and 1 unit moving towards the city... He is propably able to capture that base soon. Because of this I have now ordered a retreat in Ichang. Those troops are leaving their positions in the city and moving towards the road conjuction that leads to Sian. I haven't decieded whether I should start pulling some troops out of Yenen too.. I don't want those troops to be captured there and cut off.. but this decision hasn't been made yet.

I'm actually starting to think that his next major offensive will be againts Australia!!! It is too quiet in the South Pacific and my intelligence does show that he has a lot of troops stationed in this region. Maybe the India isn't the target after all... than again It might be.

I have no clue where the KB is at the moment. There are no sightings at all.. also he will soon have those 200000 men free to be deployed as soon as Manila offensive is over. This is not good at all also. He has stated that his troops are pretty much in place for the next offensive so this guessing game will soon be over.

On the bright side.. I will soon be able upgrade my British aircraft to Hurricanes.. that is good news indeed.. allthough they don't possess long range they are worthy opponents for the Zero's. At least they should be.

In North Pacific he now holds Attu and Kiska Islands.. I wohn't contest those bases at least not for now.. there are far more important places to be concern about.

I'm hopeful that I can conclude my build ups in the Central Pacific in "peace" and quiet. When done that I will start planning future operations.

Anyway here are few combat reports again:

RE: Japanese continue assaulting Manila...

Post by Rob Brennan UK »

good to see you flattening Luganville .. might be a good use for the slow brit BB's :) i think suggested it before ,, might as well use em they arent any use sitting in karachi. But to be safe leave one behind just in case of withdrawl requirement ( i dont know what they are from month to month) is there a list ??

My games gone quiet for a bit .. awaiting the attack on rabaul soon though. re-inforcing wake with mines :) hope they do some good. I'd love to say in deatail what i'm planning on but 'loose lips sink ships' as they say [:D]

Good luck ..

Heavy ground combats around the Pacific theatre...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 28th of March

Rob: I doubt those slow British BB's can make it in time... since it looks like Noumea might be under attack by the Japanese Navy. More on that later in this post. I think the withdrawal is randomized so you really can't tell which ships are going back europe and when. I guess that is good since you can't prepare too much ahead.

I'm also reluctant to move British navy out of Indian Ocean.. since the last thing I want is loose India itself. So, I will propably keep Royal Navy guarding the shores of India with force.

Mines do work but I must admit I'am too lazy to get full benefit from them. (Many times I forgot to give orders to ML). I have now Pearl Harbour and Brisbane area.. Other places will follow soon enough.

Here is how the situation stands:

I have now spotted +10 enemy Surface vessels moving towards Noumea.. Reports say that BB's and CA's are amongs these ships. I do not know whether it might even be KB Itself!!!??? Hopefully not since I would like him to try naval bombardment of Noumea since I have 2 PT squadrons and 2 Surface combat TF's in Noumea.. They are all set to react at range of 6. Hopefully, those can hurt Japanese shipping if he deciedes to bombard. Also, all the bombers stationed there are set on naval attack!

These news do favour the idea that he might be moving towards Australia. I have now tried to distripute the Australian infantry troops among the coastline. It is a huge country so initial landings are propably very hard to resist.. therefore I do try to stay within railroad hexes so I can mobilize quickly.

Heavy ground combats in China, Phi and Burma.. Japanese continue their assaults with force but are again pushed back. This is good news alltogether. Several thousand Japanese infantry men are reported to be killed in action.

In about 2 days time I can start to upgrade British AC's and my US fleet does have major upgrades scheduled too. Those are vital for CV's and BB's as they do get some better AA guns.

In DEI Japanese troop transports continue to pour in additional troops. They are landing at Kragen so there is nothing I can do about this. Well, hopefully those troops trapped at Batavia are brave enough to resist at least sometime.

It has been quiet before the storm and as the intelligence reports show it is about to get "windy" again... intresting turns ahead.

War turns to April.. KB Strikes.. Heavy Ground Combats ongoing...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 5th of April 1942

Manila will see it's faith sealed soon.. Supply levels are low and increasing mount of Japanese troops will make this inevitable. I would be happy if those troops would be able to hold on for another week or so. At least they have slowered the IJN advance somewhat and thus helped other parts of the Pacific.

Heavy fighting have also erupted around Homan. Seems that there are well over 100000 men sieging the city. So far those Japanese troops have been unable to recapture the city. Other parts of the China seems somewhat quiet.. allthough Yenen is seeing it usual bombardment attacks. The main concern in China is supply levels.. there just aren't enough supply..I do hold Burma road open and I do fly in some supply cargos but that doesn't seem to help too much.

KB has also popped up!!! It caused a lot of havoc near Noumea... 1 of my transport TF (empty) was hit on their way back to San Francisco.. Some AK's and couple of DD's were lost in action. IJN ambassador have stated that Noumea is from now on "prohibited" area!.. Well, I think that he's playing mind games... but if the KB stays there than Noumea is actually quite isolated!

Japanese have now more than 100000 men attacking the base at Mandalay.. heavy ground combats reported and those Chinese troops occupying the base are putting up brave fight! I think the push towards Myithkina has now started.

I was optimistic about the British AC upgrades.. heh.. it is still more than 3 weeks away. I did recieve orders that I will have to withdraw 1BB + 2 DD's this month. That isn't exactly good news all things considered.

Supply TF are reaching again Australia from India.. also I have stacked enough supply in most of the major forward bases. There are 1 American Division and few other ground troops sitting in San Francisco waiting to be shipped to their designated areas. In 10 days I will recieve few more British ground troops so that will good news indeed.

I'm still considering future operations.. Central and South Pacific seem to be the most potential theatres to conduct offensive warfare. Oh, and my CV's got their upgrades and are now at least somewhat more effective.

Here are few combat reports again:

RE: War turns to April.. KB Strikes.. Heavy Ground Combats ongoing...

Post by Rob Brennan UK »

April and he still hasn't conquered mandalay ! .. his rapid offensive had badly hurt him i think. the recent relative quiet was probably caused by drastic supply shortages.

you still cant face the KB .. and dont even try to be honest .. if he wants noumea its his .. but it will take a lot of time and effort since you re-inforced it ..

maybe try a cv strike on tarawa ? or escort a BB tf there ? you need to hit supply sensitive targets .. AF's and ports .. he cant 'not' repair them .. wasting supplies. its what hes trying in china so turn the tables [:)]

also maybe prep a couple of divs for kwajalein in 2 months.. unless he's re-inforced it there will be only a couple of SNLF units there .. possibly a suprise attack ..

anyway good luck

Japanese troops advance in China...

Post by aztez »

The game date is now 7th of April 1942

Japanese continued their ground attacks in Philippines, Burma and China.

In China the city of Homan was captured by these assaults. Defending troops retreated toward Sian and hopefully are able gain some rest soon enough. I think he has stationed 180000 troops in Homan now. So, it seems this is his main assaulting force in China. Rest of the country didn't see any action.

Japanese continued their attacks againts Mandalay base but where unable break the stalemate. There is at least 100000 IJN troops there too. The good news that the Chinese reinforcements will reach the base in couple of days. Hopefully those additional troops will give the invaders tough time in fortcoming weeks.

KB disappeared.. It was spotted below Noumea and now it has vanished. I think this region will see more of it since I doubt he would bring it here if he didn't have additional plans in this region.

As usual Manila was attacked again.. and again those brave allied troops repelled the offensive. It is an uphill battle but everyday those troops hold the city is good for me.

I have evacuated some fragments of troops out of Philippies.. that should help in the future if those troops can be rested and refitted.

Rob:

Hi again.. well it would be good news if his rapid advance has consumed supplies.. but I have a feeling that something big is about to happen.. He has the superioty in 1942 and I doubt he will just sit back.

In China he has started an major offensive plan.. I think he has some chance of succeeding with it but maybe I can put up a good fight there.

I would like bring in CV's into South but I don't think it is wise at the moment.. Tarawa would be lovely target and Kwalein sound tempting too.. I will start prepping for it as you suggested it but this plan can't be started if he has KB lurking around. I think it is too early to engage the that force and the chances of winning if slim at the best. But Tarawa and Kwalein are high on future operations list.

I will start the bombing campaign againts Port Moresby when I have upgraded the airfield in Cairns.. also I will propably invade Luganville in May.. until that time I will sit around and see what he is up to.. I do have +100000 stationed in Noumea with some quality aircraft flying from there also. How is your game going?

RE: Japanese troops advance in China...

Post by Rob Brennan UK »

We stopped around christmas 41 .. it was only a practise game for me anyway. and it's been an eye-opener .. nothing of real note. no cv's sunk or damaged either side. Also i suspect that he'll play the real-deal when the 1.5 patch comes out and we start for proper .. I cant wait .

Your game looks very odd .. frow reading this way back when it started his unbelieavable initial troop movements have bitten him back .. too long taking th PI . no troops in burma .. or java for that matter. and if he takes Noumea .. who cares .. just another POW camp you can ignore later [:D] He'll have a hell of a time supplying it without taking all the little bases around it .. not to mention pago-pago/suva and canton .. you can stage a come back from anywhere in the region and be in air range to provide an umbrella .

all in all a very interesting jap play .. not as unbalanced as i thought it might end up .. congrats on your succesful defences in china .. he's later there too .. supplying the hordes is a problem i agree .. too many a/c in china become a problem too. little and often is my approach to chinese air cover. basing bombers there kills supply rapidly.

good luck again

Japanese suffer heavy ground casualties...

Post by aztez »

The game date is now 9th of April 1942

Japanese continue their ground campaign againts allied forces in Mandalay.. Those attacking units were suprised to see Chinese reinforcements that have just arrived. This blunder resulted to be disaster for the Japanese... over 8000 men were reported killed or wounded in this offensive! [:D] I must say that Chinese infantry can really put up fight... Allied intelligence has reported that Japanese are now abandoning the Plan A and moving on with plan B! Whatever that means is uncertain.

In Manila IJN troops also suffered heavy defeat with their offensive. Over 4000 Japanese infantry men were reported killed or wounded. [;)] These allied troops have inflicted a lot of casualties to the enemy... I'am more than satisfied with their efforts! They are operating with low supply level and still can inflict casualties.

Otherwise it hasn't been eventfull couple of days.. In China the allied bombers struck againts Changsa and scored couple of nice hits againts heavy industries. This should consume his supply levels and I'm more than happy keep doing it. Also, there is some Japanese troop movements around Homan.. If I'm correct he is trying to incircle my infantry men just west of Homan. I wohn't let this happen.

South Pacific is quiet.. but it isn't actually peacuful sign.. KB is lurking somewhere and I do suspect major offensive is going to start soon.. Same goes for India.. quiet but that doesn't mean it is peaceful.

In DEI region the final assault againts Batavia has started. He managed to get 1:1 odds last turn so I guess it is only matter of time before that base will fall. When It does he has captured pretty much the whole DEI.. only couple of minor allied bases remain in this area.

Rob: Oh, PBEM was a test run than for you.. well as they say practise makes perfect.

It has been weird game indeed.. the blistering pace of the advance took me by the suprise.. Hopefully he is having supply problems since that will slow future operations. He does have a solid transport fleet left and I can see that in everyday around Philippines.

It has taken time for him to capture Philippines.. and I doubt he planned for such delay. If he would have taken it earlier than I guess he would be all around India by now! He has +100000 in Burma now.. and those units are moving via land. Luckily for me they are stopped in Mandalay! Those Chinese units are doing good job.. and I still do have my Burma army intact.. and they are moving towards India as we speak.

I haven't actually garrisoned Pago-Pago and Suva.. I do not have enough troops so those had to be abandoned for the moment. I do have over 100000 troops in Noumea and sizeable force in Canton Island. So, as you said it will be costly for him to try and take those bases.

Thanks for the comments.

Nasty suprise in China...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 11th of April 1942

Japanese army made a nasty suprise by making a flanking movement to Sian. That means that those troops in Homan road are cut off from the city and thus are encircled!!! That isn't good news and I did make a mistake by not moving them into the city before... well I have given orders to correct the situation!

Those troops that are encircled are given orders to delibarate attack! ...If they are succesful I can move them back to Sian and if not than I must think their situation again. Also, I have ordered that the city of Yenen will be abandoned. Those troops occupying the city are set to march towards Sian. Also, I have abandoned the railroad hex east of Changsa.. those troops are set to march towards inner China. The troops at Ichang are also set to abandon their offensive and move towards inner China.

Situation is critical but not hopeless.. If those troops occupying Sian can hold on for week or two than I think I can manage the situation... if not than it is a whole new situation.. fortcoming weeks are important.

In the bright side I did B17 bombardment of Kendari airfield.. just to remind him that he is not safe there if I choose so. This turn I have ordered an B17 strike againts resources in Amboina. Again to remind him that he is not safe there either.

Otherwise the situation is the same.. Batavia and Manila are still in allied hands.. allthough both bases are getting closer to surrendering. Well, that happens when it happens.

KB haven't shown it's true colours.. and I have no clue where it is at the moment. I bet that I will find out that soon enough.

Chinese troops made a succesfull assault...

Post by aztez »

The game date is now 13th April

Good news from China [:D]... those units I talked about are no longer trapped. (What a relief I say)... they made succesfull assault againts IJN troops and are now moving into Sian. The city has level 9 forts and will be tough nut to crack. My opponent has stated that he will be moving additional troops into China.. Well, he is welcomed to it and I will try to cause as much casualties as I can.

In other fronts there were no breakthroughs.. Japanese tried to capture Manila and Batavia but were unsuccesfull. I have spotted more transport ships in these sectors so I guess he is trying force an allied surrender in these bases.

Allied subs managed to put a torpedo into one Japanese AK.. It wasn't reported sunk but FOW is on effect.

I have spotted IJN aircraft in Luganville.. Well that is not acceptable! So, in next turn my bombers will pound on the airfield there. I don't want him to have a solid airbase so close to Noumea. I might even be forced to invade the base sooner than I was actually planning.

Also, resources were bombed in Buna, Amboina and Changsa.

Japanese continue their advance.. Batavia falls...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 19th of April 1942

Manila still holds.. that is somewhat of an miracle in my opinion. There isn't much supplies left but those brave soldiers are giving maxium effort. Again over 160000 IJN troops attacked the city but they were are defeated. This can not go on for too much longer.. The city has less than 4000 supplies left but who knows how long it will last. According to the Japanese military there are another 40000 troops on their towards the Philippines.

DEI is now lost.. Batavia has fallen and that is the last major fortifications in the area. A couple of minor bases are still on allied hands but those will be lost in next few days.

There have been some activity in South Pacific. It seems that few Zero aircraft are now being placed in Luganville. I have tried to bomb them but I haven't had any major success. Also, Efate is now on IJN hands.. These two bases will cause somewhat of problem to allied shipping and I guess I'll have to make assault plans soon. So that these bases can be recaptured. Otherwise it has been quiet in the South... maybe just a bit too quiet!!!!

In Burma Japanese have put their attacks on hold. If the Japanese military source is correct than there have been reinforcements on moving into this area. I haven't dispatched anymore Chinese troops here since I have problems growing in mainland China!!! More about that later... If he has send in more troops than that could mean that there are plans going ahead againts India!!!!! My opponent has stated that there are major plans ongoing so this will fit the puzzle!

I stated that there are major problems growing in mainland China! Well.. that is due to the #¤#¤#""¤"¤¤% ground movement rules of the game!!!!! [:@] [:@] [:(] Those troops that made the succesfull counter offensive againts Japanese troops DID NOT reach Sian!!! Instead they were attacked again by new Japanese units and retreated towards Jungle!!!!!!! That is bs since they should have reached the city before that!!! I hope that my troops can hang onto Sian as long as it takes those units to reach Sian "again"!

There is now sign of KB anywhere.. that also could mean that it is reparing for the next offensive!!! If you think about the last location (near Noumea) couple of weeks ago than it could mean that the next offensive would be in the South pacific! Best bet would be againts Australia/Noumea than again it could be misleading judgement since it could well be Pearl Harbour! (It isn't that far off georaphically).. or as I have always expected againts India... but I guess It is safe to assume that KB is placed in the near vicinity of next major offensive!!!

I think I propably have to think offensively in the South since he can danger my troop reinforcements! ..These bases should be captured in.. Baker island, Luganville and Efate! This means that I would need commit my CV's in action and I don't actually want to do it right at the moment.

Anyway here are few combat reports again:

Ground combat at Manila

Japanese troops reach Sian... Manila still holds...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 21st of April 1942

As the head states Japanese infantry has now reached Sian in northern China. It seems that there are a lot of troops involved in these attacks.. I have now counted over 12 units occupying the hex and preparing for their assault. Those infantry troops that retreated to the jungle are now 45 km of Sian.. and it will take few turns before they are in the city.

Manila was attacked as usual and this time the assault resulted +2000 casualties for the Japanese. This siege is bringing the Japanese some headache.

In the South it been quiet.. I raided the Luganville airfield as some some Zeros are stationed there. Otherwise nothing is happening.. just shifting supplies. In few turns I propably will send my CV's down here... they are needed as an escort for troops shipment AK's. Hopefully this wohn't end up as an mess.

Burma seems to have growing numbers of IJN troops.. That is fine by me since I have now +20000 supplies stacked in Mandalay. That should give the Chinese units a chance resist any assaults!

I have continued to bomb resources of Bulla/Amboina from Australia. Few hits on the manpower and Oil were reported... so that should consume his supply levels.

As usual here are few combat reports:

Final days for Manila ahead... Sian under heavy assault...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 27th of April 1942

The past week have seen the Japanese offensive in China. Currently there are well over 100000 men assaulting the city of Sian. Those troops have knocked the fortifications down to 7 so they are making progress. The chinese units that took the odd retreat patch are still on their way towards the city... currently they are 30km from the city limits.

I have ordered a retreat in Ichang.. there is no point of attacking the city when the real problems in China lay elsewhere. Yenen is still holding and I'm not going to issue an retreat order at least not for now.

In South Pacific the enemy activities are increasing. There are now Japanese Zero's based on Baker Island! Those aircraft attacked the Canton Island last turn and my Aircobras got short end of the stick so to speak. I'll soon have airfield size at 4 in Canton and then I will bomb that place to dust.. so I must remain my calm. Other intresting information is that he seems to 9 units occupying the Baker Island... if that is correct than I would guess he is planning an assault from there to "somewhere" in the region!

Also, Luganville is reinforced.. according to my intelligence there is now about 10000 troops occupying the base. I have calculated that It would take 3 divisions to capture base back when I choose to do so.

The coordinates of the KB is still unknown... There is no sign of that "deathstar".

Japanese Betty's attacked allied transport ships near Chandspur India too... 2 AK's were lost but those airmen paid the price. Propably around 20 Betty's were lost in action. India has been quiet until now.. I guess he has been planning his attacks carefully.

There is also no ground combats in Burma! That would indicate that he is reinforcing his troops in this area because he has at least 10 units trying to capture the base at Mandalay. Those units have been very much inactive.

In Philippines the final assault againts Manila has begun.. last turn he received 1:1 odds so the fall of that city can't be far off. I wishing that It could hold for an week or so... even that would be a miracle by now. When the city falls that will free up 200000 Japanese infantry men.. and that is quite a force to reckon with.

Thank goodness It is going to be May soon... so I can start upgrading those British obsolete aircraft... I have a feeling that things will heated very very very soon.. Manila first and than who knows where the Japanese are heading...

Here are few combat reports from the past 6 days:

Manila surrenders... KB strikes again...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 7th of May 1942

After a long battle Manila finally fell.. Those allied troops trapped inside the city are now in Japanese POW camps. This means that IJN has now more troops available for their next offensives. It seems that the target could be Australia but India is still also obvious target.

KB showed up too again near Noumea... this was very unfortunate event since I had 1 surface combat TF moving into the area! Obviously this didn't turned up good for me and I lost some valuable ships in this operation. Well, again it seems that the South pacific will be the next target... because KB will be where it is needed... also he did capture to atolls last turn... 1 between NZ and Noumea and the other near Canton Island. This would indicate that he has plans ahead here.

Battle is raging in China too.. Sian is under heavy attack and it is down to level 4 forts! Only good news is that those "jungle" chinese infantry troops did finally enter the city this turn. Hopefully, they can bolster the defenses somewhat.. if not than I guess we are "doomed" in this theatre. I would like to have more bombers in China but just can't afford it yet.. so this is hindering my plans here.

Burma is somewhat quiet.. Still no offensives againts Mandalay... I did spot few AK's moving into Akyab and I will order RAF to bombard those ships. That is all that is happening.. including the daily RAF bombardments of Japanese troops near Mandalay.

The good news is that I finally could upgrade RAF planes.. now I have plenty of Hurricanes ready for action. Only thing I don't like is their range.

US CV fleet has sailed.. the destination is classified as yet but they will pop up soon enough.

These are the latest news and as usual here are few combat reports:

Problems in China growing... rest of the Pacific is quiet...

Post by aztez »

Game date is now 9th of May 1942

This turn confirmed that the Japanese push through Sian is for real... almost 200000 Japanese troops are concentrated againts that city. Chinese troops defending the city are having real problems againts such a force. I think I will have regroup most of my Chinese infantry units since if the city falls than I will face real problems in central and northern China.

Burma and India have pretty quiet. I did manage to hit an transport TF moving into Akyab.. and I did score few solid explosions againts those ships. This turn I have given more aircraft naval attack orders and hopefully can sunk few more ships in that area.

Noumea and Canton Island are on a standby.. I have a gut feeling that these places will be attacked in upcoming days. Increased IJN air activity is a good telling sign.

This is an short update since I do have quite busy times IRL... moving into a new house, etc.. so, this game will halted for sometime now.. I will continue when I have the internet connection up and running again... :-)

Rob: All setup and ready to continue this war affair... unfortunately Vorsteher will away on holidays still couple of weeks so I can't guarantee the pace of this campaign.

Anyway, it seems he might take a back route to India and that is not good... also he has started a major offensive in China and that worries me somewhat.. more about that on the genereal view section.

I guess I might have forgotten a lot of things that I had started so It will take sometime before I can get things rolling.. and yes I will try more aggressive approach from now on.. I propably will be my downfall but It will make intresting reading at least.

Game date is now 11th of May 1942

Not much happening.. if you take out China. Last turn he did attack Sian with 200000 Japanese infantry troops and achieved 1:1 odds.. that is not good at all! Unfortunately I do not have many options on how to resist this offensive so this might end up in disaster. I have dispatched few troops to move around Chungking area and hopefully I can stop this offensive around there but that is not guaranteed!

Also, Japanese transport ships have been spotted around Akyab.. that means he is now moving troops there and I do not what his intensions are but he might launch major land campaign from that base.. well as above that doesn't sound too good.

No signs of KB or BB's... that means obviously that he is planning something big to happen and that doesn't sound too good either.. I have dispatched my CV's from Pearl Harbour because I have a clue where he might strike next.. actually you can expect some major naval action very soon.
