'Challenging' Difficulty Level

Post by Uncle_Joe »

Ok, I've been playing around with the various difficulty levels in the game. I dont really care for the combat bonuses of the upper levels as they distort play IMO.

So, I'm piddling around with the Challenging level. One thing I immediately noticed while playing Japan was that China was a whole lot more unpleasant with 50 free supplies per turn!

But it got me thinking...each AI nation is getting 50 per turn, but that is absolute and not based on the Nation or the production of each Nation. 50 per turn for China is HUGE. Same for Japan (who has chronic supply problems normally). 50 for the WAllies just means more research as they still cant translate much more capacity into units due to population limits.

So, what I would like to see as a possible option is a supply PERCENTAGE bonus. Instead of a flat number, a percentage added would cut evenly across the board. So the number is 50%. Now, China would be getting about 5 supplies a turn, Japan maybe 20 and the WAllies about 40-50. That seems much more even than the flat chunks being handed out each turn.

Alternatively, since the numbers can be adjusted individually per Nation, what would be some good starting places for them?

Off the top of my head, the above seems pretty close and would result in something like this:

Germany: 35-40
Russia: 20-30
Japan: 15-20
China: 5-7
WAllies: 40-50

Do those number seem about right if the goal was to roughly increase AI supplies by about 50%?

Yeah, good call. Not only would I say that those numbers look about right, but you are so obviously right about the supply boost meaning a lot more for China than for other countries that I am disappointed that this did not occur to me last week. [;)]

I guess I am still busy working out basic strategies for each side and have not messed with the difficulty factor much yet.

The great thing about this game is the ability to go in & customize all of the different options (supply bonus, transport bonus, etc) to get the right kind of difficulty you want to play.
