Everybody went on bug hunt few days before 1.5 was about to be released...

It never fails, everytime we say patch almost ready, people crawl out of the woodwork and start reporting a whole bunch of new bugs. You guys do it to yourselves! [:D]

but when i needed troops in SE Asia, I found that if you changed the HQ of units in San Francisco to SEAC Then a couple days later they would transfer to Karachi.

! (to put it mildly). A while back I measured on a globe the distance LA to Karachi via Panama Canal, Cape of Good Hope and across the Indian Ocean (ie the other way around the world) and found it slightly longer (about 5-10% longer) than going LA to Pearl to Sydney then _south_ of OZ and up the West Coast of Oz to Karachi. (I chose that route to avoid Japanese in the SRA) I don't remember the distances, but I do remember the difference was small as a percent.

So I think it would be a "feature" to allow travel around the world the other direction, but it should take as long or slightly longer than traveling to Karachi across the map.

A wormhole from San Francisco to Asia? Sounds plausible to me. My bet is its hidden discretely behind a laundry facade in Chinatown.

Its the zen of WitP....The units really aren't in SF. In fact SF is more of a concept representing the US and points east as well as SF. So even though the units may appear to be in SF they may in reality be somewhere between New York and the Cape of Good Hope

Actually they're a clever US deception campaign (ala Patton's First US Army Group to fool Hitler about D-Day). The troops are never really in SF, they're always in Karachi, but the Japanese player doesn't know it until you switch designations! [;)]

Great, we will never get 1.5 patch [:'(]

Like there will never be 1.6?[&:]

It's not a bug, it's a feature ;)

Of course, it comes into same feature category with two wave port attack on PH on turn one [:'(]

You can change the HQ of a LCU in any West Coast base (I tried SF,LA,SD) to SEA, and then one or two days later they disappear from the base.
They then show up in the land reinforcement schedule as arriving in Karachi 60 days later.

So it is not a wormhole, just an undocumented feature.

To answer the original question tho (about getting the C-47 from SF to India).

You've got to ride transports to PH. From PH, you can bounce along the chain (PH, Palmyra, Canton, Suva, Noumea, Brisbane). Once you get to Oz, if you still own bases PI or SRA, you can potentially find a route to India. Otherwise, you have to ride a boat from Oz to India.

How often do you need to send LCU's to India unless the Japanese go after in full force? You need all those early LCU's for pacific defense and OZ. Now getting some transports would be nice but they take the long route. [:)]

Ahhhh, but it does speak of the strategy for the Allied player the next time his Japanese opponent gets greedy and goes for all of India![;)] Although, some might consider it a tad "gamey." [:-]

Has anyone tried changing the HQ of units in karachi to see if they show up in SF?
The older I get, the better I was.

You still need to hold India for two months (60 days) before these LCUs get there.

I expect if you use Variable Reinforcement option this would also be variable.

Someone should try it at other ports. I bet only SF or maybe only West Coast ports will work. I bet it's an undocumented feature as well.

I bet PzB's opponent wishes he'd have known about this feature.

That's all I would have needed - get more troops trapped in Karachi against the "endless hoards"...

Now, if it would have worked in reverse.....[;)]
