Hellcats and Helldivers on 1/15/43?

Post by Jon_Hal »

In my longest running PBEM game (the whole war) my CVE Altamaha came quiped with 24x Hellcats and the date is only Jan 15th 1943? Another CVE (Can't remember the name) came with a squadron of Hellcats and a squadron of Helldivers. Is this accurate or an OOB error? In the aircraft pool I see that the Hellcat isn't even due out of R&D until mid 43. Has anyone noticed this in their games?

regards

It is just because you changed the reinforcements arrival dates I think [;)]
You know, historical, +or- 15 days or +or- 60 days ..

I've seen it in my game. but, I don't tend to use the VR squadrons so it didn't bother me (that much).

With 1.5, you'll be able to downgrade these groups to F4F's and SBD's.

I assume it's an oob error.

I read your post. I don't play with + or - reinforcments. Also, read Jon's post. He's at 1/43. That's 6 months before the Hellcat shows up. A hell of a lot more than + or - 60 days. It's 10 months before the Helldiver's show up.

It's an OOB error.

Ok. A mixed the F4U1 and the F6F up .. sorry [&o][&o]

But maybe they are test planes ? Just to be sure they are better than the A6M3 before producing them .. [:D][:D]

The funny thing is, since they are in VR squadrons, you can't use them offensively. It's like a piece of candy that you can't reach. It's almost torture. I just send them to Seattle and forget about them. [:(]

Hi, In 1.50 it won't matter. You can change them if enough other aircraft are in pool.
You can even milk them. (put the VR into the pool and use the pool to reequip a CV Group)

So do you folks have any suggestion as to what to do with those squadrons? Disband them? Seems gamey to try to use them at this time in the war. but it would stink to not have any planes on those CVEs. I suppose I could run Marine squadrons off the CVEs.I'm not sure what the VR designation means for those squadrons. Are they just replacement squadrons that can't fly missions? Thanks for all your input, this is the my only PBemail that has made it to 43 and I'd hate for it to get ruined because of OOB mistakes. Thanks!

By rumor if you put the VR squadron in a replenishment TF it can top up real combat groups on SVs in the same hex.

But I have never actually done that myself. It is only hearsay.

Speaking of aircraft being on map much before they are available, why does Japan start with one Sentai of Ki-44 Tojo on 7th December 1941?
Only 9 planes in it, full capacity is 36, so you have to wait 8 months in order to start filling it up...
Why isn't it Oscar or Nate squadron?

IIRC it was a test squadron trying out the new design.
