Using the sattellite version i checked out the norfolk naval base in virginia, and lo and behold, there were two carriers docked there. Anybody knows which ones they are?
There are nice sattellite photos of almost all of USA there... places like area 51, nevada nuclear test sites.. you name it.
Enterprise
George Washington
Truman
Teddy Roosevelt
Eisenhower
Enterpise is undergoing overhaul and the GW was at sea in the Atlantic on 4-11-05
That leaves Truman, TR and Eisenhower (probably [:)])...I suppose it is possible that the carrier with the temporary structures on the flight deck could be the Enterprise, but it doesn't look like there is enough activity for an overhaul.
Actually suprised US military/Pentagon dont push for removal of such data...it almost seems too easy even if the sat photos are old.
I think the carrier photo has been retouched. Normally there is a large number on the front end.

Hmmm...good point. Of course, we do know who actually owns the Keyhole satellites [8D] the US could actually use to put out disinformation. A carrier is hard to hide in port, but if the Navy wanted to surge out subs or amphibious support ships lets say for a big operation...they could put up an outdated pic showing the vessels still in port with an incorrect date.
Someone who has this installed, should look at Whiteman AFB and see if they can see any B-2's (they may all be in hangers). They would likely be transferred to Diego Garcia before an attack on Iran for eg.
In the olden days the Navy always painted out the the haul numbers on all, boomers & attack subs pier side or tied up outboard of a tender.
I would think that in this day and age the of the surveillance satellites the Navy would do the same with Carrier flight deck numbers when carriers are pier side.
No, they don't paint over the numbers. No one goes to the trouble of hiding a Carrier. Ships movements aren't even "secret" anymore, only FOUO (For Official Use Only). All ships make port calls all over the world, and you can see your local news when a major deployment is starting. Just spend an evening on Google to find out all you want about the Navy, it's ships, it's weapons, etc. I remember back in 81 when I was on the first deployment of my carear on board the USS Belleau Wood. We pulled into Subic Bay, PI, and the first night out, I saw that all the bar girls were wearing USS Belleau Wood hats! I figured if we wanted to know where we were going next, we should just ask them.
It is definitely Norfolk Naval Station. They are both Nimitz class carriers. Norfolk is currently home port for Eisenhower CVN-69, Roosevelt CVN-71, Washington CVN-73, and Truman CVN-75. Can't tell from the photo which one's those are. Ships aren't "mothballed" at operational bases, so I believe the photo's were touched, but if the flight decks were having new non-skid applied, the numbers would not be there. Otherwise I can't tell you why there are no numbers. I spent 2 years on Carl Vinson CVN-70 and don't recall ever doing anything to "hide".
OK...as of 3-05...GW is in drydock at Newport News for 1 year overhaul. That leaves GW out.
On 3-19-05 the Truman left the Arabian Sea to return to home port that seems like about 12,000 miles if they take the Suez..perhaps 600 miles a day..thats about 20 days transit..perhaps arriving in Norfolk by 4-8???? So the Trumanmight be in the Pic
as of 4-5-05 the TR was underway for TSTA/FEP (whatever that is) in the Atlantic. Now the the ship could be back or the picture could predate 4-3-05...so the TR is still in the running
I couldnt find out where the Eisenhower is.
Enterpise in out...not Nimitz class.
The possible dandidates are Truman, TR and Eisenhower. As the TR would almost certainly have been at sea before the Truman returned, it cant be those two carriers together, so one of the carriers must be the Eisnehower. If we knew the picture date, it might be possible to say with certainty...or someone in Norfolk could go look [:)]

don't forget the pics can be 12 - 24 months old

There's no reason to retouch or hide these photos. The people who want to see what ships are in port need only drive by - the CV berths are easily viewable from multiple highways and roads. In addition, anyone with spy satellites has better resolution than these shots, so again, there's no point in hiding it.
If the numbers are actually missing, it's because of new non-skid being applied, not some spy game.
