Need strategy for Axis

Post by Colonel Poochie »

Can someone briefly tell me the best strategy (playing PBEM) for Axis? Hit Russia hard in beginning? Try to take Africa? Build sub fleet? I seem so scattered and can't fight a war on 2 or 3 fronts.
As Japan, should I attempt a USA land invasion (any chance for that?) What about Australia or should I concentrate on getting as many infantry in asia?
I know there are probably multiple strategies but for a noob like myself, what is my best option. I just got my tail whooped pretty good .
Thanks in advance.

the best thing I can tell you as japan is to never invade inland china. its a complete waste of time and resources. I've found that simply keeping the east indies and maybe assaulting india is the most straightforward strategy as japan.

as germany, the most starightforward seems to concentrate your tanks and make a push for the caucuses, while trying to kill as many WA transports as you can.

Don't be so cathegorical - it depends on a "larger strategy scheme" a player will choose.

Recently I won two PBEMs vs solid players as Axis by autovictoriy, and in both I attacked inland China as Japan. When game ended my Japan was at 27 production points.

If you plan for a war to finish before USA enters in earnest, then going after inland China is prefectly workable strategy. Of course if you fail to get magic 70 production points, it may backfire badly...

i won a game decisively playing germany as normal difficulty.

i attacked Russia in Su 41 driving for Leningrad, then surrounding Moscow and capturing the capital region. Then drive south and captured the caucasus. eventually capturing all of the western and central russian regions. i left the frozen esatern region alone. I captured Eygpt and Iraq by the time of the Russian campaign.

the japanese were holding on half of China and fending off the US.

Meanwhile the Germans defending against WA landings in France and North Africa.

By Sp 45, I achieved the 70 Prod capacity as all the Russian Factory and resources were repaired and held down.

In another game playing both the Germans and Japanese, I went for China and capture all of it but Su 42. But as a result Japan missed the historical W42 attack on the US, and was unable to deploy to attack SE Asia until W 43, and supplies was lacking too. So I tend to agree that China can get you bogged down.

I will start a new game where Japan will NOT push inland in China.

Wongbil2's strategy is the same one I use as Germany. Just hammer away on Russia and don't get distracted by the Western front. Always remember one word with this strategy: Caucasus.
