Improved AI?

Post by Tom1939 »

Hi!

For fun I played 41 campaign with the soviets against german computer. The computer did capture Kiev and got close to Moscow until 41. 10. . He seems to use stronger armor units. Now I get weaker and weaker in this game or the ai has been improved. Or is this only the result of the imroved german rail conversion? It feel bad when I think about skilled human german opponent

oh, yeah. Most of changes in WiR 3.1 are in favor of German side. Soviet experience grows 2.5 times slower by training, rail converts faster until 20th July, damaged aircraft are very vulnerable to airfield bombings, Axis units are stronger in blizzard etc. We 've just started the game with Josan(he plays German) and I had nearly ALL(I mean all) frontline aircraft destroyed. Well.. let us see how will it go. The game is very different. I think that I will have to counter attack strongly already in July because rail conversion is not an obstacle for German player....

I've also tried the new version, I played the Axis side. I noticed that the AI as soviet had no chance whatsoever, soviets took extremely(!) heavy losses. I easily captured Leningrad, Moscow and Rostov in '41 (i could have advanced even more, but decided to dug in before the blizzards and see what happens..). I don't remember the losses the soviets took, but they had less than 40k squads and about 3k-3,5 tanks (mostly the old obsolete ones)on the map (i wanted to see their strength when the blizzards came . So, I think the balance has moved towards the axis side.. That bug with some of the HQs resetting their replacement level to 0 caused some problems (i didn't know the workaroud)-> Axis army in Africa surrendered early '42.. but that didn't stop me from crushing the soviet. Although, I dont know if the bug does harm the soviets (when ai is playing it). Next i'm going to try the soviet side, maybe this time the Axis won't be annihilated in '42 and Berlin captured in summer '43

First, I'm pretty sure no significant work on the AI code has been made.

Second, the Soviets get the bug too. In the Campaign '41 scenario RVGK and 2 other HQs drop to 0 OPs on the second turn. This probably (!) confuses the AI at the very least, and likely seriously damages the AI's ability in several areas. So don't be surprised if the AI plays even dumber than the totally stupid that it usually does.

Untill Arnaud fixes this, I wouldn't bother playing the AI.
