developers: couldn't the production screen show everything during movement phase?

Post by WanderingHead »

Hi

In the movement phase, the resources, factory points and population don't show up on the production screen.

I can see no reason why this needs to be the case. All it seems to do is inconvenience the player. It would be helpful in planning one's turn if one could more easily get a picture of what can be produced that turn.

Could this information please be displayed on the production screen during movement?

yeah that is kinda strange. must be the way the code is done.

I think that all the free trade and production values are decided at the beginning of the german turn anyway, so whats the difference if they show it or not.

The production screen numbers are not there because they are somewhat dynamic during the turn and rather than calculate then dynamically each time the production screen is brought up we decided to show the relevent in-turn information on the Production Summary Screen.

Yeah, but computers are good at counting.

It is not secret information to the player, and it is not all that complex. If I understand correctly, the only dynamics during the turn are damaged units returning to factories and partisan damage to factories. It's not like it is hard to keep a running tally, but it is difficult or tedious to do as the player.

I very strongly believe this should be displayed. It's a killer trying to figure out potential German production beforehand once the population limit kicks in and you have damaged units flooding the factories. And this is necessary information in order to finalize troop dispositions for the end of the turn.

Another thing that would be helpful is if the "Region Info Screen" had totals for each world power. I'm still playing my first real game (1 turn a day takes a long time to play), and as Axis frankly it is difficult to compute exactly what the production limitations are for Russia. It would be nice to know if destroying resources would actually have any effect (I think not, factories are the limitation). I have the information, so it shouldn't be considered a FOW type play issue, but I have to tally it myself.

Wanderinghead;

Actually, for Russia, resources become a problem in WI'42. At that point, unless the Russian player has somehow captured resources, they will have idle factories without resources.

As the axis, this is HUGE. A foray into the Caucus, simply to destory, not necessarily hold, is a monumental tragedy for the Soviets. There are 9 resources in that vicinity (2 areas) That is almost 35% of the Soviets total resource centers. Do whatever you can to breach those areas and the Russian empire will disolve (albeit slowly)

This _will_ hurt Russia badly, _unless_ they get enough lend lease :)

If russia takes persia, LL can be used to repair resources in caucasus the first turn after it was given (if LL was given through Persia, that is). Persia also has 2 nice resources that can boost russian production further. (Again, repaired by lend lease).

I agree here, especially when playing China it would be good to know when you get units and how many as you would need supply at some points to keeps those guys moving into the Japanese.

I would say giving a projected production count in the movement phase would help.
