For Rich Dionne or Michael Flashman, regarding ExcelWIRedit v2.0

Post by Possum »

Hello Rich and Michael.
I have been using the excel WIRedit v2.0 spreadsheet to re-do a custom OBWIR. And what a time saver it is!
But I have noticed some glitches.
1st. In the cities spreadsheet, city no's 0 and 99 are not recognised.
2nd. In the subunits spreadsheet, subunits 1110 to 1199 are not recognised.
This means that data in these "slots" cannot be managed with excel WIRedit.
Thank you again, for a wonderful tool!
"We're having a war, and we want you to come!"
So the pig began to whistle and to pound on a drum.
"We'll give you a gun, and we'll give you a hat!"
And the pig began to whistle when they told the piggies that.

Rich, thanks for this great utility.

Thanks to it, I finally got around to rearranging the sequence of aircraft. Being an "ordnung-pervert" of the worst kind, I always found the Bf-109K coming at the bottom of the list very offensive. That is now fixed in my personal OOB, and all related models on both sides are neatly bunched together. I'm going to playtest it now, to see if any strangeness occurs (with USAAF perhaps?).

Thanks Guys,

Michael Fleshman deserves the credit. He took my Pacwar editor method and applied it to WIR. I'll send him an e-mail to see if he can address Possum's editor issues. How's that aircraft rearrangement going Yogi? Did you come across any glitches?

Regards,

Rich Dionne

I hadn't checked the Editwir documentation closely enough, or I would have discovered that some slots are reserved for planes that the computer assumes are obsolote/foreign (so you can't change production to them). Once I allowed for that, it worked just fine. I'm thinking about dropping the Fokker now and replacing it with the Romanian IAR 80 fighter. If its put in a normal slot, the temptation to use the factory for better stuff could prove irresistible. And anyway, who ever used that Fokker for anything?

I am glad you are finding a use for the editor

I have already corrected the "sub units" oversight. I will look at the city slots 0 and 99 to see if they are valid options for editing and if so, I will certainly add them.

In the mean time, I will forward the latest version to Rich to offer on his site. That version has the sub unit correction and many other additions. The downside is that there are a couple new sheets that are not too pleasing to the eye because I'm testing other capabilities. You may notice that I have added more information to the editor since Excel makes it so easy to do that with data. As always, be careful about changes you make to formulas and formatting.

Thank you for using the editor because it makes it worth the effort.

Have you tried using the slots that are presently unused? You can add totally new aircraft without changing any of the existing ones. The most important consideration is the "Upgrade" column which essentially establishes paths for production to follow, with 254 being the end of the path. The "Side" column determines whether the aircraft is Axis, Soviet or Allies (0, 1 or 2). Anyway, I find it easier and cleaner to create new aircraft rather than changing existing aircraft slots when I want something radically different. Of course, you also have to change factory production if you want the aircraft to be at the beginning of a production path.

I have done it that way before. The difference is that if I make a IAR 80 in the first free slot, then the Axis player can change production in the factory producing those IAR 80, something he cannot do with the Italian factories, or a Mixed Fighter factory. And after a while, changing production to bombers of Fw-190s begins to look like a real good idea...
