System Requirements?
I have an older HP 6746-C Pavillion machine with Windows Millenium ME operating system and 256 Mb of RAM. This does not seem to meet the listed system requirements. Will I have difficulty installing and playing this game on my machine?

RE: System Requirements?
We do not officially support Win ME. I have heard someone on the forum say the game ran on their ME system but without the videos. At 256 MB you'd probably need a very large graphics card to have a chance of it working well. You should search for the win ME post to see if they listed their system specs.

RE: System Requirements?
I am interrested in the turn-based strategy aspect of the game. I'm not interested in the video or music capabilities. Can I turn those features off and would that enable me to play it easily on my system (256 Mg RAM, Windows ME)?
Thanks
Thanks

RE: System Requirements?
Geraldb13,
Please post a DxDiag file per the instructions in the pinned thread at the top of this forum. While we don't support Windows Me for this title, I should be able to give you a good idea of whether the game is likely to run (unofficially). It is possible to run in 256Mb of RAM on a Windows Me system, but only if it's pretty much perfectly configured.
Regards,
- Erik

RE: System Requirements?
I'm running Win ME and it works pretty good on my machine
However, I got 512 Ram and a 256 Video card, only 600Mhz speed though, still it works well, even with sounds & animation.
One weird thing is that I must exit the game completely before I start a new game or it just freezes.

RE: System Requirements?
I'm running it with only 256 RAM and it works okay. I run it in high graphics mode, but without the battlesceen pop-ups. That being said, I double all the other systems specs.
RE: System Requirements?
Sirs,
I ran the DxDaig and posted the results in this reply. Again, I am more interested in the game rather than the sound and graphics capabilities. I would be willing to disable these capabilities as a result. Any unoffical advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Guys (Mark or Erik or Frag),
I have WaW inbound via mail and thought I'd post my dxdiag ahead of time (given the many problems others have had) to see if you'd take a look and see if I will have any issues that I can prep for ahead of time.
Thanks in advance.

Yoy should increase your virtual memory to 1500MB. Good luck.

You only have a 6.5 MB graphics card. The minimum spec is 32MB. You would need to get a bigger graphics card to have a chance.

Joel,
Thanks for th reply. One question though, I thought the typical recommended virtual memory was ~ 1.5x your physical memory. Your suggestion is ~ 3x (my memory is
512M). IS there a downside for any oter app's/performance ?

RE: System Requirements?
I don't know. I was just giving you Erik's standard of using at least 1500MB for this game. Maybe someone more technical can answer your question.

RE: System Requirements?
Gerald,
Those are pretty typical specs for an integrated 810 chipset based system of about five years ago, much more intended as an office/desktop PC than for any kind of gaming. The bad new is that this system may not even have an AGP slot for a video expansion, though you could find a PCI card. The integrated video, you would have to check how much system memory that can request to see if it would stand a chance. 16Mb is the lowest I've heard of that worked with GGWaW and I woudl really recommend 32Mb of video memory. Your audio is also an integrated sort (I have it on an old system here, same type) and I've found it to be unreliable for a host of newer games. A sound upgrade is not definitely necessary, but may end up being required as I believe they haven't updated drivers for that Crystal Audio set in a long while (yours are from 2000).
Processor and memory-wise you are at the very low end, but you should be fine there. Windows Me we've had several good reports on, so I'd say that won't be an obstacle (though we only support 2000/XP officially).
Your best bet looks to be an inexpensive video card upgrade. I wouldn't put one of the big new cards in this system, just about anything would improve on the default chipset video. Even an old nVidia GeForce 2 would be a great boost, or an older ATI Radeon. More than that might be wasted as far as the other components go.
In short, you have a system with a few potential problem areas, but one virtually guaranteed issue - low video memory. You could fix that for less than $30 if you are interested in taking that route, at which point the odds are that GGWaW would work in 16 bit mode.
Regards,
- Erik

RE: System Requirements?
Scout1,
Incidence of problems has been low overall actually, compared to units out there. However, your specs look great, I've run it on a similar system with no problems at all. Only advice is this - both your video and audio drivers are well out of date. I would search for updates for both and install them before the game arrives.
