Rookie win with Axis(normal level)

Post by randell765 »

Well, it took me quite a few games, but I hit the 70 mark with the Axis for the first time, whoo-hoo. Now bear in mind that most people will have better strategies than this.

A Germany, I take out the Low countries and France 1st turn. But instead of hitting Yugoslavia, I use my supplies to fill the Med(although I don't transport any troops to Africa as I feel it is a waste overall)and to break into the Baltic(as well as repairs). I also use my 2 planes in Italy to air patrol over them. WA will Always attack 1st turn and will take some losses. When it comes time for production, I will build subs (I try to have up to 8), tanks and mostly inf.

Any ships(besides subs) that are in ques I cancel, even the damged ones from the WA battles. I don't care about owning the Med, too many supplies, my goal is to have my ships out there 1-3 turns and have the WA concentrate on my ships rather than Africa or taking over small Islands off of Italy.

Meanwhile I research up to 10 points a turn no matter what season/year it is. On-sub ev/torp/--tank att/tank eva/--plane speed/plane air att/ people have different strats but I like to have my subs up to 5/5. Every time I play on Normal the computer always boosts it ASW up a few points. It costs me less overall to constantly concentrate in 2 fields for subs than the WA AI to ASW different ships multiple times. And every point the Allies spends on ASW is less points in other fields.

On the next german turn I take Yugo, and try to get all subs into France(still too weak to attack anything besides transports),then on the next turn take Greece. Meanwhile I stockpile mad infantry into Yugo, tanks into that small country by the baltic states(as well as some planes and inf).

Then it's off to attack Russia in spr41, I find I can do maximum damage with little loss.I knock out there major air and tanks as well as take Lenningrad 1st turn. Then it's repair time.

At this point, I either push a little further(depending what Russia does), but normally they pull back. But I always try to get to Cacasus as fast as possible. That whole area takes a lot of resources away from Russia(as well as Persia and if you want to head sw or se but normally I stop at Persia. Up north, I consolidate and wait for the first winter to pass, I leave a few inf to be attacked by Russia for the first winter. Once that passes it's all conquer and repairs. Meanwhile my 8 subs keep taking out wa fleets, I can hurt the WA but I never seem to take over the Atlantic, I always make sure my subs are back in port(France)every turn, mabey that prevents me from taking over the Atlantic, limited range.

thats pretty much it for Germany, I just try to kill troops around Moscow to further weaken Russia and take over startegic locations as best as I can.

Japan I play very conservative. First off, I don't attack the USA before winter 43, why? It keeps the USA off Germanys back and prevents the USA from having a x3 modifier before they should. 1st turn I attack nothing. Get all my planes onto the mainland. start moving my fleet towards Pearl. For Japan I buy 1-5 tranys,1-2 tanks,1-2 car air,(this is overall, not on the first turn) besides that every turn I buy 2 inf and the rest supplies. On 2nd turn I slowly push through the coast(always bombing China wherever there are no flak guns).
When I lose the 3 resource points from the US, I take over Siam.

For the Pearl Harbor attack, I surround Pearl Harbor with my subs an 2light fleets. Then launch a regular attack with my car air. At this point I raised there LAND attack, thereby easily killing the inf and arty there. then I transport 2-3 units there, and wait there. Then take over the islands as best as possible.(depends how much supply is left over) You shouldn't even do this attack if you have under 110 supply.

But this move crushes the USA, they will take 6 seasons to try to get Pearl back while you consolidate your islands. Meanwhile you can take the rest of China and Voila 70 point victory. Don't get me wrong though. When I won my 70 point victory, the allies had just invaded France with som 39 units (even with all the ships my subs sank each season) if I wouldn't have hit 70 there, it would be game over for Axis. Any thoughts or ideas?

I really don't tech that much with the Japanese, just land based air and light fleet asw, if you need to tech after that then you are eithert losing the game or trying to take over the world(not in my league yet), enjoy :)
