Flag of the Austro Hungarian Empire

Post by ptan54 »

Firstly, I'm happy that a strategic level game is being made for the First World War (even though I pay a modded version of Hearts of Iron 2 myself). There aren't many of these around and I'm always happy to see these come into production. The flag for Austria Hungary in the "December update" thread is the Austrian flag with the Habsburg eagle. This is incorrect as in 1868 the empire became the Dual Monarchy - except for foreign affairs and military matters, it was an Austrian and Hungarian state. The flag for A-H is similar except there is no Habsburg eagle in the middle and the bottom horizontal bar is split into two, the left part is red, the right part is green.

Exactly like that.

The Austro-Hungarian monarchy is one and the same with the Habsburg Monarchy. Franz Josef was Kaiser of the Austrian lands AND King of Hungary at the same time. The union was on a state level and on a personal dynastic level.

Well, it is not that simple, but if you want to take a look, try this site.
