Is it possible to replace the unit sprites with traditional NATO counters? Anyone working on a mod for this?

Yes, it is possible and should not necessary be that much work. We encourage players with some art skills to make a NATO style counter set, and I have the impression from the amount of comments on this topic that we will see one sooner or later.
