1) Depth charges in the CHS have an Effect that is roughly the same as a 6in-8in shell.
2) The game does not model near misses, only direct hits.
3) Therefore, a couple of hits from DCs on a sub = bye bye (as we know ...).
In reality most depth charge "hits" were actually near misses which cause damage by a pressure wave rather than direct explosive impact. At least that's what happens in the movies anyway
Basically the Effect needs to come way down to make the "hits" become near misses. From my playing, a sunken Japanese sub will have received 3-7 hits, whilst 2 hits gives a 50/50 chance of surviving. IMHO, Effect needs to be reduced to the point where 7-8 hits are required for a sinkage with 6 being the 50/50 point.
Of course, the Japanese DCs should get the same treatment. In my experience their DDs are just as lethal when they hit, they're just not as likely to get an attack in.
