Hello All.
For some time now, I have been working on a personal project to create a new OBWIR. As I felt that the current OBWIR had many errors in it.
Well I started doing research back in April, and at long last I think I've just about finished.
Originally this OBWIR was to be for my own use, but after putting so much work into it, I decided I might as well share it.
So what I would like, before I let it go into general circulation, is for a few brave souls to try it out, and see what errors, or glitches I'v overlooked. Oh, and proofread the accompanying documents.
Also a volunteer to post this custom OBWIR on their website would be nice too.
I have compleated encoding the new OBWIR, and I have now only to compleate typing up the OBWIR changes document, which I hope to have done by friday this week.
Now to beat my own Drum..
This new OBWIR features..
Lots, and lots, of Sovet tanks. ( I always felt that as the Axis player , you should have been forced to ask the two great questions about Barbarossa... How many Tanks to the Soviets Have?, and How do we Stop Them?)(The great majority are T-26's or BT-7's however.)
Lots of Obsolete Soviet Aircraft.
Lots of Soviet Artillery Regiments.
All Armys, Korps, Divisions, Regiments, etc... now in alphanumerical order, withing their respective classes..
Many new Axis divisions, that took part in barbarossa (at the expense of 20 late appearing Axis divisions)
Some new Soviet divisions appearing in 1941 - 1942
at the expence of later appearing Soviet divisions.
Diferentiate between, Elite, Good, and Mediocre starting Soviet divisions.
Starting forces for both sides of Barbarossa, now as close as allowable by the OOB and map hex limits, to what was present, and where it was on June 22, 1941
Eliminated the conversion of Pz Bn to Jpz Bn in the German Army Pz Divisions!
Eliminated the conversion of Soviet Tank Brigades to SPG Regiments! (By eliminating all the Independent Tank Brigades; Soviets now only have Independent Tank Regiments, but LOTS of Them.)
More Motorized Divisions for the German Army! (Infantry divisions that historically accompanied the Panzed Divisions into the Soviet union are now motorized, so they can now keep up.)
Some Soviet Motorized Divisions now never lose motorized Status.
More Mechanized Korps & Motorized Corps for both sides!
The new Soviet Motorized corps never turn into armies! (So the Soviets will eventually have 8 Tank Armies, and 4 Motorized Corps.)
Exstensive computer vs Computer playtesting has shown that this new OBWIR results in the Soviets winning the war by April 1944. This compares to the original OBWIR, where the Soviets generally win by August 1944. For the first 6 months the Germans seem to do as well as they did historically. It's only after the first winter that events depart from historical results.
With neither OBWIR did I ever see the Axis get anywhere near the objectives acheived historically in 1942.

very interesting. I would be interested in having a look at it and playing it as well as soon as one of the games I am playing is finished.
Makes both sides much more mobile and might indeed resemble the blizkrieg and deep penetrations of the Eastern front war.

I'd like to check it out!

I also think that tank icons of Rich Dionne could be included in WiR as standard.

I also would offer my aircraft icons to use in updated WiR.

Hello

I've already posted info about my aircraft icon file in another thread.

You can get air1.sym file on www.vvskbf.newmail.ru (I dropped it there without any html-environment).

Now you can view it here as gif version:

Best wishes,

I'm interested too...

And if you still need it, I've got some virtually unused website space (got just the WiRAssistant-page and download there, but it doesn't seem to generate too much traffic, hint hint <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0"> )

Very nice indeed.

Now we have nice Tank, Arty and Air icons, can we now have millions of little solidiers running about with tiny little guns.

Maybe thats asking too much!

.... Seriously, nice work.

I would like to give it a go!
I can perhaps lure Muzrub or Loki to try them as well!

Ok, so I have Varjager, Heiks, Andrey Dikov and Matthew willing to test for me...
Any other volunteers?
BTW gentlemen, I've run into a few snags, that I'm still trying to sort out.(mainly with cleaning up the Excel database.)
Hopefully, it will be ready to send out to you all Tuesday 13/11/2001.
Thank you Gentlemen for your patience.
