Air vs Infrastructure attack; dont understand

Post by drtechno »

Read the manual, checked the readme, etc.

But still all of the die modifiers are not listed everywhere :( What's up with that ?

I just did an infrastructure attack. No defenders. Attack vs rail. Single heavy bomber. Normal difficulty. The detailed combat reports my die roll vs his defense 12 +6 .. where did the +6 come from ?

Very confused as I can't find any reference to this.

Winter in a cold region?
Were you op-fired at on your way to the target?
Any interdiction points on the way to the target?
Are you German, doing an infrastructure attack on the first Russian winter?

I have studied many, many of the combat reports, and always figure it out eventualy.
All but one appear to be found on pages 66-67 in the manual.

The only one I have found consistent but not in the manual is attacking subs losing 1 evasion to units that have not been shot at.

I should have been more specific about that.. but no.. not first winter. It was 1943-ish, no op fire. Interdiction only applies to Fleets.

MAYBE it was an attack in the winter time (NOT first winter) but that would not account for a +6 to defense for a railroad!

Is there something about unescorted bombers not mentioned in the manual ?

Again, this was a single heavy bomber, at a range of 3 or 4, attacking an undefended railroad infrastructure (single). Russian bomber vs german railroad. Not first winter. NO op fire.

Any other ideas?

Fortified area? + winter in cold region would add 2evasion making a +6

Air units are effected by interdiction zones.
Page 74
"In World at War
TM
, whenever a naval or air unit (or a unit moving as cargo over a chain of
transports) moves from one sea region to another sea region, each enemy controlled
land region that qualifies as an Interdiction Zone will cause one Interdiction Point (IP) to
be added to the moving unit."

Now that I think of it I think Rail is 2ev x 6 duribility = 12. In winter cold region +1 evasion will give it a +6 for 18.

Hmm.. thats maybe what happened.. 12 +6. Rail + winter could explain that. Hmm.. Yea.. At 18, with a couple of junk die rolls, would explain why I didn't hit squat.

Thanks a lot guys !!!!!!!!!!

By the way, while I have everyone's attention, is there any way to entice japan into invading in the far east and unfreezing Russia ? Or for them to drop the number of troops in Manuchuria. It would be fun to have a 2 front war.
