Ship conversions are to Destroyer Tenders, Submarine Tenders, Q Ships, Auxilliary Cruisers/Commerce Raiders, Ammunition Ships, and Repair Ships. Minelayer Tenders and Seaplane Tenders are not used (they are in game, but cannot be converted).

Because in my research, I have found only a select few MLE's, and certainly not enough to warrant a conversion. However, the auxilliary cruiser and Q ship, by contrast, were far more integral and predominant in naval warfare of the time. So, I decided to remove the MLE, and replace it with the Auxilliary cruiser, and the AV with the Q ship.

MLE's

So are you saying there are no MLE's in the game?

Won't that just about put an end to mineware ?

No, it just reflects the navies of the time. Both navies were designed for European fighting, where MLE's were not needed, as the bases with which to load mines would be relatively close to where the minefield's would be laid.

In the 1920's the MLE was not a key feature of mine warfare, and as such it isn't in War Plan Orange.

In the 1920's, all the World's navies were predominately designed for fighting in the Atlantic. Small Submarines, Short ranged Battleships, and lack of support ships. I have not designed War Plan Orange to be just a naval wargame set in the 1920's. I have designed WPO to accurately simulate the fleet's of the 1920's, and all of the problem's facing the World's militaries. The World's armies were designed to fight in Europe, their navies in the Atlantic.

It sounds painful, but it is fun and different. Of course, it requires a different playing stule than WitP.

The MLE I thought was more a Witp solution to "WHAT SIZE PORT DO YOU NEED (debate)" to reload mines!

With fewer or no size 9 ports and no MLE's it would seem mine warfare will not be part of Plan Orange.[:(] This seems like a step backwards from UV/Witp, the first naval games to include mine warfare.

There are size 9 ports, but as I said both fleets were designed for short range minelaying. I.e., Japan's would probably be best to lay defensive minefields outside Japan, and around the PI and in the South China Sea. The United States would probably mine the PI, South China Sea, and Hawaii. Mine warfare is still an integral part, but it won't happen as fast.

I suppose I could pop in a couple of MLE's, but I don't like the idea of creating made up ships.

Hehehehehehehehehe. No problem.

My stance on polls is make the game you want, but also the game that people want. And I can be flexible.

Hi Tankerace: No MLE's, keep it historical - I've now voted twice today (once in a general election, once in your poll....)
