When?

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

When?

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-Is there a date we can expect WIF to be available? This looks like what I've been waiting for. Is it at all like Hearts of Iron? or Grigbsy's WaW? Also, will this be a download or store bought game? Thanks, Hugh Browne

If you are new to this site you will soon realize that the more realistic question is, "is work on this game even started?"

The development team headed by Robert Crandall was supposed to begin working on MWiF after FPG was completed. The last we heard was that they were distracted by EiA. We basically haven't heard a thing since. Pessimists out there think the game is dead in the water. I'd like to think they are so hard at work they don't have time to read or post on this site. The little that I have heard indicates that they haven't figured out how to resolve the problems associated with a PBEM version of this game.

To answer your other question comparing WiF with WaW and HoI:
IMO WiF is similar to HoI2 only in that they both take a long time to complete a game and provide a large scope. Otherwise, WiF is nothing like either game. In fact, WiF is like no other WWII stratagy game that I've ever seen or played (and that includes most everything out there). Bruce Harper's a World at War might be the closest thing, but it still plays much faster and doesn't have quite as much depth as WiF.

Let's hope we will hear something soon from the development team.[&:]

WiF is hex-based, not area movement, and unlike HoI2 or GGWaW, MWiF will be adapted from an acclaimed table-top board game. If you want to get an idea about what it is like, check ADG's site, and especially the fansite links there:

I haven't played HoI2, but GGWaW is fun and challenging. Even so, if Matrix can somehow capture the thrill of WiF in a computer version, I believe it will blow them both away. I hope it isn't lost in limbo as has been suggested.
