Two major bugs in WIR

Post by Daguerre »

These note is about two bugs i have found this week in WIR. I will share this with you even if i don't know if they are already documented.

1- The information bug (undetectable)
When you play a PBEM game and that you finish your turn, you surely saw that if you restart WIR you will need to use the password of the other player to play. There is a bug here: simply give any password and after the third attempt WIR will tell you that you have a wrong password and he will send you back to the menu screen.
Restart the PBEM game again and look... you can see the map with troops on it...
simply press ESC on the screen and WIR will start the turn of the enemy player! So that way you can know exactly where are is troops how strong they are etc...

2- The movement bug (detectable for good players)
While playing your turn, you all know that when you have finish your plotting you press the button Combat to see how your tactics has turned... If you look well, under the button combat you have the save button. Here is the bug..
You can move troops during your plotting. Example: you transfer from rail a panzer korps from leningrad to kiev, you save and exit the game. If you restart the game, your panzer korps will be at Kiev ready for attack! So you can do teleportation as you wish! You can move and save as you want! A simple way to eliminate this bug is to simply remove the option save from the combat menu.

Before i finish, i would like to say that i'm sorry to two great players against who i'm playing as Russians right now: Will and Magnus.
I used the information rules against you guys this week so i cheated.
Sorry

thank you for report Daguerre! First one was not known, but second is in a bug list. It is high priority bug and we all hope that it will be squashed ASAP. First one .. well I can't say it is a bug. It is just you(or whoever else) was cheating the game. It is an issue of TRUST between players. There always be ways to cheat the game, crack executable, crack savegame etc. I will report it to the testers group but Arnaud is very annoyed with such kind of "bugs".
Thank you again.

with the loss over over 200000 men and god knows how many panzers in the south i fell annoyed that i am playing someone who cheats against me . a bug is one thing but the essence of playing a game is the unknown , i now wonder how times before in the battles for kiev have u used this trick .

Cheaters never prosper- they just lose the people they play against.
Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
You better watch out,
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Iraq, and i have seen
Things are not what they seem.

I dont defend cheaters, but at least he admitted he cheated and I know some players (not from this forum) who never did.

How would the "movement bug" be detectable?

Again what we have here is a case of exploiting programming errors or items that couldn't be forseen when the game was coded. If you know it's not right to do something that the coding allows, then don't do it.
Still playing PacWar (but no so much anymore)...

I just want to make something clear here. I wrote this message about the bug for all the community and in the same way to excuse myself of my behavior in the game. As i told to magnus and loveman, I used this trick for only three turns.

At first it was only a curiosity but it became a habit... But there is a difference between a cheater and me...
A cheater never says that he cheated. I did.

I could have said nothing and stop using this trick or continue t use it. I prefered to tell the truth that's all. And i must say i'm pretty proud of myself on this point.

I hope that this message won't flag me in this site as a cheater. I like too much this game and the people against who i play are great people.

By the way, Loveman doesnt even answer my mail of excuse so it seems that my game is over against him!

So if anyone in to play a game against me i would be pleased to start a new game. This time i would like to be the german. Happily my game against Magnus still continues!

Thank you.

A cheater never admits he is a cheat
it is one thing to inform to others of a bug /cheat. but correct me if im wrong , was it not myself that brought the fact initially to ur attention.
anyhow i am sure ur are not the worst offender.
regarding ur game against me ?
do u think that there is anypoint in continuing it considering that u know everything there is to know about the disposition of my troops and the fact that u annihilated several panzer divisions with the bug.
