damaged infantry are dead

Post by Incy »

Twice now, I stumbled upon the same problem:

I attacked with japanese infantry in inland china, and had 3 infantry damaged. The area I attacked from was linked to Japan with transports, and by land to Manchuria.

But after the attack, the damaged infantry were nowhere to be seen(especially not in any production queue), and in the summary of losses, japan was listed with 3 more dead infantry.

Is there some rule I might have missed out on, or is this a bug ?

If there was a link to a factory, they should have been put back in the production que. I'd have to see a save just before the attack to see if there is a problem. If the unit is destroyed due to no retreat route, you should get a text message saying this as long as you have a message delay set greater than 0 (although it's been noted that the combat report will only list the unit as damaged, so if you miss the message you can miss that the unit was destroyed). Send a save to 2by3@2by3games.com if you feel there is a bug here.

I have had the same thing happen as well. While attacking Changsha, damaged infantry did not appear in the build queue and there was no message about them being unable to retreat. Unfortunately, I don't have a save from before it happened.

If you get a before save, please send one. If you have one just after the incident, you can send that as it might give us a clue about what's going on.

sorry, I have no save either before or after. I tried to reproduce the bug to get saves, but couldn't.

Both times it happened were in attacks in inland China, once an eastern province, once the westernmost one.
Both times Japan had 3 damaged infantry and took the hex.
There was a normal combat report showing the damaged units. I also watched the combat and saw 3 and only 3 hits.

I do have message delay set to more than 0, and there was no message about units being destroyed.

Ok, if you can, try to use the autosave preference feature in case you see this again. That way you can send us the autosave from the beginning of your turn.

Had something similar happen again, this time 2 damaged japanese infantry got killed during the russian turn. This time I also got popup messages. Transpotrt chain to japan was intact.

Might this bug be related to another bug thets posted here, about damaged units getting killed when retreating after combat over a TRS chain ?

Retreat of damaged units IS a type of retreat (even if the hex is won), and japanese units of course always end up retreating back to japan, i.e. across the sea.

Anyways, sent save...

We have identified (and fixed) a bug where units that fought and were damaged in a zone that contained a friendly factory were destroyed instead of being placed in that (or any other) factory.

not sure if that is the case in this example tho.

Not the case in this example. The attack was an attack by japanese vs empty hex in inland china, vs. "popup" militia only.

btw, I reproduced the bug and sent saves to you by email yesterday, so you should have something more to go on now.
