Noob Starting Points

Post by WhiteWolf »

Hello folks.
I bought the game yesterday. I've been very impressed by the forums, after action reports etc. that I've seen here. I would also like to thank the developers of the game. I've played the board game WaW for many years and have always dreamed of playing it online. Since my best friend and toughest competitor now lives in Russia to be able to play it PBEM is a great bonus that I never imagined. Thanks.[&o]

My question...
What are the biggest errors a new player can make in the game (besides not reading the manual)? Have you lost games because of minor details you overlooked? Can you tell me the 'classic' noob errors so that I ca avoid them.[:-]
Also, could you tell me generally at what point you felt you were 'getting it'? What things did you do that improved your games the most?

Please don't feel as if you are giving up any confidential information. It will be a long time before I am even a mediocre player at this game.

Thanks for reading and any comments that you leave.[:'(]

Welcome ;)

Mainly I would suggest to read the threads about

Italian Gambit
Unfreezing Analysis
Evasion "Exploit" (General Forum)
New Player's guide (sticky, General Forum)

Especially the New Player's Guide sinde it lists the "Top 10 mistakes" ;)

Wow, Amazingly I missed the whole General section. And I've been to this site dozens of times now. Thanks. The top 10 list is exactly what I was looking for. I guess I am already a victim of the noob errors I was intending to avoid.
But if anybody would like to add anything else it would be appreciated.

I think we are referring to the main, WaW forum page. And I have now gone through those threads so thanks again Charon. They're very useful.

Some general concepts;

-A fighter in a strait (Gibraltar, Cairo) is the only thing that will OpFire on subs
-Placing a fighter in another region places it 'on patrol' for that turn
-Free Trade! Re-read that section of the booklet again, as you will surley need it
