Soviet divisions at fronts

Post by Kuniworth »

Hi, Ive counted the divisions in the soviet fronts at the intial start of Barbarossa. In the game soviet have less divisions than in real life. The real figures first, game numbers (x)

Northwest Front(Kuznetsov)

28 inf div(18)
4 tank div(4)
2 motorized(2)

Western Front(Pavlov)

25 inf and cav div(28)
12 tank(13)
7 motorized(6)

Southwest Front(Mikhail Kirponos)

27 inf, cav, air div(35)
12 tank div(16)
6 motorized(8)

Southern Front(Ivan Tyulenev)

17 inf and cav div(16)
6 tank div(4)
3 motorized(2)

According to this there are 3 extra tank and 10 extra infantry divisions at the frontlines than it was in real life.

Anyone else checked his sources and find that the numbers are correct in the game?

Hi Kuniworth,

I double checked your totals against the sources I used to update the 1941 campaign with and they check out pretty closely. I used the Scorched Earth boardgame OOB as my primary source, which also gave me the deployment locations in the scenario, with some tweaking due to game constraints, and Operation Barbarossa for corps composition and some strength information. I had to add in at least one corps that did not exist because the game forces an entire corps/army to be located in one hex, when in reality it could be spread out further than this distance. I got a lot of tank strength from various sources.

What source did you use for your strength totals? I would be interested in looking closer at it.

Thanks for the post.
