Rail Lines Versus Rail Units

Post by Spider333 »

Just installed the game, have done the tutorials and read the manual. I'm confused on the relationship between rail lines and rail units. The manual talks about the rail capacity of regions being either one or two rail lines. Then of course there are rail units. The manual also mentions that one rail line will have 40 strat move points. To do strat moves via rail, do I need both a rail line in the region and a rail unit there? When bombing damages a railroad, is it damaging the rail unit or the rail line? If a region has only one rail line, is having more than one rail unit in that region pointless? Thanks for your help.

Strat move is either:

a) By rail

or

b) By sea transport

In both cases, one or several rail lines (the more rail lines the more points) or a sea transport provides a certain number of strategic movement points.

Points are consumed as follows:

1 unit of supply: 1 strategic movement point.

1 ground unit (non-armor): 5 strategic movement point

1 armor unit: 10 strategic movement points.

Also note that sea invasion does not use ordinary sea transport points, but invasion points. (The second, lower number next to the transport)

Hope this helps ya along :)

So, you're saying that you get 40 points of strat move for every "rail line" in the region without the need for "rail units." If so, what do rail units do?

Each rail unit represents one of the rail lines. If the rail unit is damaged, the rail capacity for that rail line is cut in half. If damaged to level 2 (red), then it has 0 capacity until repaired at least 1 level. The rail units are what are attacked by infrastructure air attacks and what is damaged when the area is conquered. They must be repaired to regain the rail capacity.

Each rail unit gives the area 35 rail capacity (40 using Advanced Supply) so 2 undamaged rail units gives the area 70 capacity (or 80 with Advanced Supply). If one is damaged to level 2 but the other is not, you'll still have 35 capacity.
All understanding comes after the fact.
