Chinese units retreating towards a RUSSIAN base ??

Post by wild_Willie2 »

Hi.

Just forced 12 Chinese units out of lanchow, while they had no more supply base in the area. Now they are retreating towards Oboto, a RUSSIAN controlled base ??. (see picture)

Well, maybe they're communists and want to join their brethren[:D].

Oboto seems to be the nearest Allied base for them (ostensibly the road to Sining is blocked by a Japanese unit), but I guess this should not happen (at least if the Russians are still inactive).

Exactly same thing happened to me in my game v. Dan Stafford. I was quite surprised at the time, but he recommended (my first PBEM) I block the road leading NE from Lanchow to prevent this in the future, so I cut it from Lanchow to the road trailing north from Yenen to the Russian border. Just about to re-engage his retreating forces when 1.5 came out...

[X(] Well done! At least they are useless as a fighting force and you easily deny them access to a friendly base (it looks like at least 800 road miles to a Russian base)

The game doesn't really look at countries being different, there are only two sides.

On the other hand, it was usual for defeated army to cross rather borders rather than becoming POW, if possible. French did that in 1940 in Switzerland, Germans units trapped in far Southern France in 1944 went to Spain, Polish units in 1939 went to Rumania and Lituania

It has happened to me in our PBEM game too, Chinese Army retreats from Sining to Tabun-Nur (IJA Airfield just on Soviet-Manchukuo border) and seized the base...to my surprise, base switched to USSR flag. I was really scared to attack them, my opponent fortunately changed HQ back to China command and I captured base two weeks later.

Chinese now retreating close to Soviet borders again.

That's actually Mandarin for "Not bloody likely" (literally "very much NOT good!").
