1st PBEM Game..(Very advanced turn based gamer!)

Post by GenTroy »

Hello,

Im 35 years old. I am looking to play my 1st PBEM game. We need to discuss rules and then start.

Little background info... Im from Canada and been playing computer games from about 1977. Im a huge turn based fan and will give you a great challenge.

GenTroy

Canada will be the next Super Power...Once we conquer Quebec[;)]...Just joking!

PS. I will only play using the 1939 MOD or 1940 MOD RAW DEAL that is downloadable under mod section and its version 1!

Hey GenTory, where you at in our fair nation? I've been a wargamer since about the same time, and turn-based games rule! Cant' wait for the computer-game Empires at Arms.
I'll play you in Raw Deal :) It's not really all that different, but enhanced, you know? I'd make a few more little changes, but haven't talked with Oleg about it.
However, Oleg said he was trying to make the German strategy of W.France>Spain harder, but I found it easier with his mods...
Pick a side, advanced supply, FoW on, but Area Supply OFF (it drives me boinkers the way it moves supply around!)

Hummm, try a few more games against the AI. Advanced supply makes things veeery different!
I'm in Winnipeg! My family used to own land near Abbotsford, on Mount Leeman Road :)
Also, I attended your airshow once. Wow! It was great (even better than Winnipeg's, which is also very good)
Generally speaking, Advanced Supply forces you into the WWII dilemma of balancing supplies & troop movement. In GGWaW it also makes you worry about rail rapairs a lot! This is a good thing, it adds tons of realism with only minor rules, amazing really!
But we can still have a go with no advanced supplies if you like :)
Just send me a turn. Germany (with Japan or not) VS WA (With Russia & China or not)

Edit: Empires at Arms is a Napoleonic era board game. Exceptional in every way! Avalon Hill tried to copy it, then ended up buying the company (as I recall). France, England, Austria, Prussia, Russia & Spain go head to head with lots of diplomacy, economics and tactical combat! The victory conditions are unique :) So to see it translated into computer-land (there was quite a bit of 'book-keeping') is almost as good as another Gary Grigsby game [:D]

Ya, maybe I'll give the Advanced supply rules a try today. I just was prethinking it would turn the game into a micromanagement NITEMARE..LOL! Hey, do you like CIV3? Im dying for CIV4 coming this XMAS...

What about Auto-Supply? on/off? Fog of War seems cool to me but does computer actually use it?

GenTroy

Im starting a game with these rules to test things out as follows;

Advanced Supply-On
Auto-Supply-On
Fog Of War-On
Area Supply-Off
Transports 200 Everyone

Im playing Germany in Rawdeal in my TEST GAME with computer. I maybe should take Japan too because they are stupid as shit..heh!

Silly me!
dee5cats@hotmail.com
Or you could click on my 5Cats name & look in my profile [;)]

Also silly, Empire IN Arms is being developed right here in Matrix!
Check out the Empires In Arms on the Main Forum page.

For PBEM, since you're new to it, you can leave FoW off. There aren't too many surprises for the WA side.
Leave Area Supply and Auto Supply off, the computer moves supply around hap-hazardly and you end up moving supply yourself anyway!
We can play with NO advanced supply to get you started.
Put my transports at 100, lol, especially with Regular Supply.

Edit: I did like Civ3, but found it very time consuming. Basically, you expand, grow, fight with your neighbour etc, then along comes some distant empire with such a HUGE LEAD on you that you're doomed! 6 hours wasted! It got rather repetative! That was only at middle difficulty too. I liked the Civ traits, especially Industrious and Religious :) Just like us Canadians, eh?

I like Fog of War its cool. So no auto supply?..K I was playing with it and its alot of Fun! I like the Advanced supplies. It really adds to the game. Im fine with everything, but why do you want to be handicapped on the Transport issue?? Shouldn't everyone be at same level or one side has an advantage? You play Germany and set rules and I'll play Allies to get my feet wet with this PBEM!

My Email is troyacross@shaw.ca

Thanks...

PS..Should use Fog of War it makes things a bit more fun!

I think the reason they set the transoprt to 200 for the AI is because AI is fond of moving lots of stuff around :)
I'll set it for 150 for you & me. The Amphibious capacity is still the same.
Hope you've been reading in the forums about SeaLion and such! lol!
And Raw Deal scenario too ;) Turn on the way shortly.
