TRANSPORTING ABDA UNITS WITHIN DEI

Post by Sparrow »

First game, first thread, need assistance.
Playing allied in scerio 15 and presently being slapped around by the Sons of Nippon.

Problem:
Have to decided to concentrate my ABDA ground forces ie aviation support and infantry units in critical areas in the DEI. Nice plan. My transports arrive at far flung islands in the DEI to uplift required troops but the puter won't allow the troops to be loaded unless I change the command staus ie ABDA to ... let say South West Pacific.

Have I missed the boat somewhere?
Surely you must be able to transport ground units around the DEI without having to change commands.

Grateful for any assistance.

No you have to Pay PP to move troops from resticted commands, ABDA, Aus and PI commands, its to stop massive unrealistic evacs of troops. Its a pain but it stops you from removing them with out paying a price and slows down the evac to Java.

It's a pain, but I think it's worth it to move some units around. I don't have the game up in front of me, but I am thinking things like:

*That RGT of troops on the island outside Soerbaja (Padmarkasan or something like that)
*Troops on Sinkep Island, that is a worthless post

I believe you can air transport them with your patrol and transport groups.

I move a -LOT- of stuff around in DEI. I don't -abandon- DEI, but I do most a lot of stuff around. Part of the problem with the Dutch (other than the fact that utterly suck), is that they're all spread out, and are defending worthless objectives to begin with.

Move them around a bit, put them in places worth defending, and you can make it harder for Japan to capture DEI (altho it's collapse is a forgone conclusion).

This whole area confuses me. For example, I have been unable to air transport the ABDA Bn idiotically posted on Singkaep (or however its spelled) to Palembang (on Java) by air. I have been able to move Aussie remnants from the evacuation of Singapore from Singkaep to Palembang (after they were changed to ABDA). Very confusing.

I was able to move an engineer unit from Miri to Western Borneo.

I was also unable to pick up the security Bn's on SWestern Java (the Indian Ocean coast)

It seems some units have special restrictions on internal movment as well.

Yup, I agree - moving things around in DEI is easy - just pay the PP and go.

But plan your moves relative to time and importance - you have limited PP for a good while and must balance between shipping some critical units from US ( which start in West Coast command ) as well as perhaps trying to evacuate some units from the P.I.

Plan on your DEI activites taking weeks or months, not days.

I move lots of stuff around in the DEI. By the time Japan attacks the main island of Java or Palembang, you'll have plenty of PP to reassign them to ABDA command if you wish to. I personally leave them under whatever command I switched them to to move them. They're doomed to die and the few replacements they might see by being reassigned to the ABDA simply increases their victory point value to Japan.
