hybrid playtest

Post by bstarr »

y’all
I’ve got a game going that combines Pry and CHM - it‘s just my own personal tweak, not meant for public consumption. Besides using what I considered the best of both mods, I also tried a few experiments of my own. Most of the experiments are trivial or personal preference and probably not of any major interest. However, some ideas may be worth a second look for the serious moddersand I’ll keep y’all posted should they pan out.

So far, one idea that I do like is that I’ve changed the “squad” devices to read like Indian Rifle Sqd 41 rather than Indian Rifle Squad. This way when a squad upgrades the player is aware which units have the newer equipment and which ones don’t, ie a Indian Rifle Sqd 41 will become Indian Rifle Sqd 44. I named all units for the year they become available except the units that upgrade in December; these are named the next year.

Squad-related question - the number of soldiers in a squad changed throughout the war. This is often represented by changing the firepower of the unit; however, shouldn’t we also be changing the “load” of the unit as well? I came up with this idea after I started by new game, so it’s just an idea, not an ongoing experiment.

I did the same thing with my version of CHS. I had to abbreviate Squad to Sq for a lot of the squad names, though. It'll be nice when the time comes to upgrade some units. I can turn off all upgrades for all LCU's except the one US division I want to upgrade. Then, I'll know exactly when it's upgraded and can turn on the next unit.

As it was in the past, I couldn't tell if any unit had upgraded. I imagine the base forces took the upgraded squads first, since they only have 40 instead of 250 or so.

Like I said, it'll be nice when the time comes. (thanks also to Michaelm's WITPLoad utility. What a godsend)
The older I get, the better I was.
