Not a note...but you can with an event. The category screen will list all related notes and events. And the events will have a note field you can keep notes in. There will also be recurring events....

Looking good. Almost looking forward to this release as I am to 1.5! Hoping to do away with my notebooks completely!

Question...can you select a base and make notes about it?

Not at this time, no. I have added provisions in the database for x,y coordinates for the future. This is something Bodhi and I will have to hash out, because it involves more "talking" between his program and mine. Right now the only "talking" our programs do is the F10 key, and setting/deleting games. We have discussed it though. Bodhi...comments ?

However, all is not lost. I would suggest creating a category (like "Tarawa" in the screen shots) and keep notes and events in there. I think that would do for the moment.

I think it'd be useful for players to have the option of automatically displaying notes for the currently selected hex in the utility. If you include a property for the currently selected hex in your DLL, I can set it whenever, and however, the player changes the hex. You could then load the notes/events for that hex.

How about doing that for an auto category? That would load all of the pertinent events/notes in one window and display. Otherwise, it could get ugly if a player had setup 125 different events or notes for that base, and having all those windows pop up. I think that would be doable. And on your side...set it to return 0 for nothing available, or 1 for something available, and then you call a Show method.

Ok, i'll have to doodle on some paper for this one. But I'll toss it high on the "to do" list for the first revision.

Well, I got the trips out of the way, and for about a week now some testing has been going on with the planner/calendar. Since no partions were deleted or hard drives accidentally reformated [X(], I thought I would open up the testing a little. If anyone wants to try it out, PM me and I will let you know how to get it.

Don't want to post the link here because it will change eventually, and neither Bodhi or I want to have to keep answering the "Why is the link broke ?" questions all the time.

Hi, thanks for the great utility. I have a couple of questions about it. When it asks for a save slot, what happens? Do I have to have a game already started and saved in that slot? What if during the game I make a save to another slot as well?

There are a couple of options to set intel times (1 day - 7 days). Does that mean it only checks that often or that it only keeps stuff around that long or what?

Hi, thanks for the great utility. I have a couple of questions about it. When it asks for a save slot, what happens?

All the data it uses is saved into a sub folder XXX of the main WitP SAVE folder, where XXX is the save slot number. Also, if your have auto-archive user-saves turned on, whenever you save a game to that save slot within WitP it'll make an archive copy of the save.
Do I have to have a game already started and saved in that slot?

No you don't need to have a game already started, it'll work even for a brand new game (just don't click the "Check for New Intel/Ops" button before you resolve the first turn though [;)]).
What if during the game I make a save to another slot as well?
If it's the same game, the intel/ops/combat reporting will function as normal. If you're using the auto-archive of user saves option, it won't recognise the save as it's to a different slot and so no archive copy of the save file will be made.
There are a couple of options to set intel times (1 day - 7 days). Does that mean it only checks that often or that it only keeps stuff around that long or what?

The options on the Reports form simply alters the number of days worth of data that's displayed. There's an option on the Options form (Tools->Options) that allows you to control how many days worth of data is saved. Unless you have a compelling reason to do so, I'd suggest you don't change the number of days saved (once the data's lost, it's gone forever [;)]), rather control how much is displayed via the options on the Reports form. Intel/Ops/Combat reports are checked after every turn resolution if auto-monitoring is turned on.

RE: WitP Utility - AB's Map and Pry Scen 34

Post by treespider »

Trying to use your utility to plan IJ first turn utilizing Pry's Scen. 34 and AB's map. Utility doesn't want to show airbases or ports or resources/fuel/oil etc on map....The correct map appears... with no information on it...

EDIT: I have multiple installs.... AB"s map and Pry's Scen 34 are installed under C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific the original base game is installed under C:/Matrix Games/ War in the Pacific.

In the utility...under the tools option when i point the utility to the AB file I get the correct map but no information...If I point the utility to the original game in the War in the pacific folder it appears to function normally. ie. the original map appears with information on it...

The correct data appears in the side bar...just no visual representation on the map.

EDIT #2: Still exploring ...the utility seems to be working fine with AB's scen 116. Possibly Pry's Scen 34 is missing a necessary file?

Sounds like you don't quite have the paths correctly set. There are two paths under tools options: one for getting all the scenario files, pwhex.dat and the main SAVE folder (this path should be the main WitP folder) and one for the Map bitmap tiles (this should be the WitP ART folder). Note that Andrew's map mod uses a different pwhex.dat file and base locations may be different, so you probably need to do the following.

When using the utility for a game based on Andrew's map set the paths to
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific
and
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART

When using the utility for a game based on the original version, set the paths to
C:/Matrix Games/ War in the Pacific
and
C:/Matrix Games/ War in the Pacific/ART

This should work, if not I'm sure you'll let me know. [;)]

Note that the paths aren't currently saved for each game, only for the utility as a whole, so you'll have to swap them back when you change to a game based on the other version.

Not too sure. Can you give a listing of all the files in the utilities folder? Thanks.

I was aware of the path issue and have tried several variations all with no success for Pry's Scenario

When using the utility for a game based on Andrew's map I set the paths to
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific
and
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART.

Pry's scenario appears in the list. If I change the paths back to the original his scen is removed from the list...afaik this is working as designed. When I run a report based on Scen 34 the map appears but without all of the nice informational icons such as ports airbases and oil/resources etc.

AB's scen 116 comes up just fine with all of the nice map indicators I was looking for ...

Pry's does not. I have Pry's Scen installed at
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific/Scen

AB's map in v3b appears to be installed at
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART as well as
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART/maps_modified_v3

I have tried both locations in the path setting without success. I did notice that there is a pwhex.dat in these locations:

C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART
C:/Matrix Games/AndrewBrown'sWar in the Pacific /ART/maps_modified_v3

Drex,

Could you please explain how you got the base and airfield icons to work for Pry's scenarios. I am having the same problem with the icons.

Thanks,

Sorry Khawk, I'm not playing Pry's Scenarios at the moment, just the stock scenario 15. I have some icons but maybe not all. I think I'm missing some. But the proper path seems to be the key.

WitP Utility and Pry's New Scenarios

Post by Bodhi »

treespider and KHawk,

Pry made this change in all his new scenarios:

"Removed all daily supply and fuel from West Coast bases and moved to United States base 330, supply will now have to trickle down to the coast from the supply center. Reduced total daily supply and fuel on to 30,000 supply and 20,000 a day each."

That's causing the problem. I've fixed it and the updated version (together with the addition of the option to display where your forces were spotted last move) should be available fairly soon.
