Supply and Partisan Questions

Post by canuckgamer »

In my pbem game we are using advanced supply, auto supply, but no area supply. I assume that the way supply is used for tactical movement is that the supply in the area is expended first. Once that is gone, if more supply is needed the program randomly uses supply from a region that can be traced to? Using these supply options I also assume that as long as units can trace back to a supply in any region that they can consume it for defence? In other words, do you need a supply unit in the region for those units to defend at full supply against an attack?

In the example on page 95 about partisans, specifically Western France, as long as the Germans keep 3 occupying units there I assume that partisans will not be created. Not sure about the last sentence where it says each turn the Germans occupy, 3 partisans will be created. If one was created in summer 1940 and the German garrison drops to 2 in fall 1940 does that mean two partisans will be created in fall 1940 making a total of 3?

Even with auto supply on, supplies do not automatically move to provide supplies for defense. They need to be in the area or adjacent to the area that is attacked and needs a supply point. For anti-partisan warfare, the I think the supply must also be in the area where it is needed (maybe adjacent, can't remember at the moment). It will not move automatically. The only supplies that move due to auto-supply are those needed to supply units during the unit's movement phase (to move or attack or refill torpedoes). You need to position supplies for your anti-partisan work in the areas where they are needed, and you need to keep some supplies at least adjacent to areas where you may be attacked and will need defensive supplies.

This is still one of the most frustrating aspects of "auto supply"...you can't place supply in regions and "lock" them there - auto supply takes them from whereever its most convenient.

A right click on a supply to "lock" it to a region so it will only be taken if none other are available and you "approve" would make the micromanange required for defensive supply much easier.

Or you could turn Auto Supply OFF! lol! Which is what I prefer.
I mean you have to micromanage supply anyhow, for defence & partisans, so moving supply for movement is not much harder. Plus you can choose the routes taken by the supply. The computer doesn't always take the "best" route.
For the Partisan creation question: Each turn (after movement phase is complete) each captured province with a Population produces 1 Partisan Per Population. So W.France produces 3 every turn. If you have 3 garrison troops, with a supply point, they supress all 3 (for a cost of 1 supply point, not 3 thank goodness). If you only had 2 troops there, 1 Partisan would not be suppressed & start doing nasty things :) until it too is suppressed or it attempts an attack on something. (then it is 'used up' and vanishes)
