Best 1941 Campaign

Post by Sailor Malan »

Hi, I have played a lot of WiR against the AI, with earlier versions than 3.1. I now plan to start an email game with a Friend. Which is the best version of the war to play - best defined below:
- no game stopping silly features
- historically accurate (reasonably)
- reasonably balenced (doesn't have to be exact, but some chance for both sides)
- can play entire war

I notice the default (v3.1) campaign 41 has some errors in Russian sub units (14+ 1 Tank Rgt for example). I wondered what else is there. I notice several people doing AAR of the basic campaign - is this with the intention of playing the whole war, or 1941 only?

Thanks

Hello sailor <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

Well i can give you my personal opinion for what its worth.

1. I dont think any of the '41 scenerios are only for '41 play. Personally i start each '41 campaign fully willing to play to mid '45.

2. The standard V3.101 '41 campaign has been called pro-german by many and i feel that if used the more experienced player should take the Soviets.
3. The Possum '41 campaign has the soviets a fair bit stronger as a counter to the situation above.
4. The Mist '41 campaign has the soviets a bit stonger and the germans a bit weaker for the same reasons.

Of the above i think the Mist 41v1 game has the most historical accuracy and both sides have a good chance regardless of player skill.
Though i think it is a truism that if a very experienced player runs the Axis against someone new to the game(or who is not paying attention) then the soviets are in trouble no matter what the version.

Nick

EDITEDITEDIT
I goofed with the Mist scenerio, only just realised that it is timed out to 20 something turns.
