Supply question

Post by Dragol »

Do defending units use supply each time they are attacked or just for the first attack? Also, will they draw supply from neighboring regions?

Dragol,
My understanding is that once a unit has drawn supply even once it will be considered to be in supply until the begginning of it's next turn. If this is true (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) than a unit which moves tactically will be in supply if attacked on the opponent's turn. A unit can only be supplied defensively by a supply in its Area, except for fleets at sea which can be supplied from an adjacent port or Island.

The other exception is when fleets move more than one area. When they do that they pull more supplies on the second area.

1) Units are considered in supply if the tactically moved (or were given supply) in their tactical phase. They will be in supply for defensive purposes until their next turn.

2) A unit can be supplied defensively from its area or an adjacent area. For fleets, they can be supplied from a transport with supply in the same area, then an island in the area, then an adjacent land zone in the sea area. IN that order.

3) All fleets use one supply to move one area. This is pulled from the initial starting location. If the fleet then wishes to use extended movement, it can pull the supply from the original location OR the new location it is in after the first one move.

Important note: ONE SUPPLY will supply an ENTIRE area for an ENTIRE turn sequence. Therefore, for example, if Russia attacks West Germany in their turn and the German used a supply to defend, then the Allies attack on their turn, NO NEW supply is used. The Germans are considered in supply from the previous use of the supply from the Russian attack

hope this helps!

Thanks for clearing that up. One more question. Is there an easy way at the end of your movement phase to see what units are in need of supply for defense purposes? For example, if I send some ships into combat and they use extended movement, then from my reading of the above, it seems they may or may not be in supply at that point, depending on where they started from. I hope I'm not being dense here.

If they used supply for movement they'll still be in supply for defence, same for land units.
Otherwise click on the supply page on the top toolbar to easily see where all your supplies are, and where they might be in short 'supply', lol!

I never knew this Mike. I thought that for defensive purposes the supply had to be in the same area. Thanks.

Hummm, I think that land units, even if they moved and are in supply for defensive purposes, are NOT considered in supply for Garrison duty (unless there's a supply truck around of course).
Well, I was surprised when I first saw that!

Correct. Supplying a unit has NOTHING to do with supplying an area for anti partisan activity.

You MUST have a supply IN OR ADJACENT to an area that has partisans AND the troops IN the area to quell the partisans

Ok, this issue just came up in a PBEM game and I didn't have an answer to it. Suppose you strat move into a deserted island and capture it. Then you move some units strategically onto the island following combat. You do not move any supply trucks into the region. It appears to me that the first (combat) unit will be in supply but the other units may not be. Can the other units draw from the icon barrels attached to the first unit or will they defend as unsupplied? What exactly are the differences between having trucks on the island and having some of the the units with barrels on their icons?

OK... the other units cannot draw supply from the one unit that has supply(ie the one with the barrels). If this area was attacked, all units except the one with the barrels would get a negative modifier to their evasion for being unsupplied. If you put just a single supply unit ("truck") there then all the units would be supplied should they be attacked.

I just captured Scotland. At the end of my turn I had 1 supply truck there and a bunch of unsupplied strategically-moved units. We are playing with auto supply on. I noticed that after my turn, one of my units there sucked up the supply truck and turned it into his own personal barrel. Does this mean that the other units now have no supply for defense? Is this a bug with auto supply?
