Freeing additional HQ for German rear units

Post by moonfog »

Hi guys,

as you certainly know, there is a german HQ located in Norway that is not usable in the game (in WiR Data Editor it appears as #0 named dummy SS).

Is there a reason why this HQ was not relocated and though made usable in the new campaign OOBs (Possum, Mist etc.)? Some time ago I tested that and IIRC the only problem with the dummy SS was that all units attached to it didn't receive any replacements. Does anybody know about other problems (like new bugs etc) that might appear when using this HQ?

If there is no other problem than not getting any replacements, the dummy SS HQ could in my opinion be perfectly used as a rear area command (f.ex. under Himmler). All german Korps with security Divisions could be attached to it to stop these non combat Divisions "eating" the squads in the manpower-pools.

Any suggestions on this issue?

When we were developing WiRAssistant, we discovered, that the HQ in slot 0 is used by the game to contain atleast all the armies that are not used at the moment. So, all the armies and korpses that are not used are attached to HQ 0.

heiks,

were these all soviet and german armies and korps? If the unused soviet units are attached to dummy SS too, it could possibly bring up new bugs using the HQ in the game. In this case it's better to leave them in Norway!?

Both Soviet and German armies are indeed attached to the same dummy SS hq, so it probably should not be used.

Now you've done it! I just had to go and try to look that one up, without much success (even lspace.org wasn't very helpful). So now my potentially very productive morning has turned out the way they usually do: I've got nothing done

I guess that (the presense of the phantom HQ in Norway) explains the mysterious air activity that was happening while I was advancing on Helsinki.

Was this phantom HQ resupplying the Finnish HQ? Or was it the other way round? Or something else entirely?

If you were playing against the computer, then anything is possible. I once found a dozen German panzer divs in the Finnish HQ even though the Finns and Germans never connected with one another in that game. Strange air activity is right down the computer AI's alley.

In former versions it was possible to transfer units to Finland by rail transfer. Has this been changed now?

I think it is still possible to rail transfer units in or out of Finnland (representing naval transport in the Baltics?). However, there was once a discussion about that on this forum and it seems not to be historically correct to transfer Pz Divisions and other heavy equipment to Finnland. IIRC there was an agreement (house rule) not to reinforce the Finns with additional german Divisions.
