Some small mouse problems

Post by Maledictus010 »

Hello people,

First of all a very much deserved thank you to the creator(s) of Starshatter, took me while to find something like this and i'm happy as a clam with it. Unfortunately some things don't seem to go okay on my setup. I have a dell inspiron 9100 (wide screen works fine here), with a mobility radeon 9800 in it.
I've looked for postings on my problems but couldn't find any, so sorry if i pose questions that have already been answered.

- when i go into the options screen the resolution is always set to 640x480x16, texture size is set to 2048x2048. Before clicking apply i need to set this to my preferences, 1280x800x32 and 4096x4096. The next time i go into the options screen settings are back to 640x480x16.
- i only have a mouse for control, no joystick. The right mousebutton is used as secondary fire AND as the jaw/pitch switch control. I can't seem to change that, the right mouse button always does this no matter what i set in the key bindings. Also the key that should perform the yaw/pitch switch (default 'J') doesn't do that, no matter what key i assign to it. And how do i set mousebuttons in the key bindings? Clicks don't seem to register when binding.
- when i switch to the nav screen when in my fighter and move my mouse, when switching back to my fighter the mouse movement from the nav screen is carried over to my fighter, so it jerks around somewhat (setting me off course) and then settles, on another course. If i press ~ on the nav screen twice before switching back to my fighter, this does not happen.

I run version 4.5.0, drivers/directx are up2date.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!

1st - Thanks for buying the game! I'm glad you're enjoying it.

OK, issues -

* Unless you are using a mod with really high-res textures, don't bother adjusting the max texture size setting. The game doesn't include any textures larger than 2048 x 2048.

* The options screen has always gotten a little flakey when you use a widescreen video mode. I thought I finally had those bugs ironed out in this release, but perhaps not. I'll have to take another look at that.

* Mouse functions are all hard-coded and cannot (currently) be changed in the options screen. What were you hoping to set them to?

* The nav screen behavior is clearly a bug. I never noticed that problem myself because I habitually use the ~ key to drop out of mouse control before switching to a different screen. But the game really should take care of that for you with the NAV, ENG, and FLT screens.

Thanks for your quick response.

About the mouse buttons: basically they are fine the way they are, i'd just like to change the right-button behavior; i tend to fire a missile when i want to roll the ship. But by now i've gotten used to performing those functions from the keyboard and only use the mouse for direction. Works fine.
I'll experiment some with other screen resolutions to see if they're remembered correctly. It's not that big a deal since the resolution is remembered during gamestart and play, it's just the option screen that resets the dropdown value.
The NAV screen: i'll use your method for now, press ~ to exit mouse steering before entering NAV.

Thanks again!
