Sealion still too easy

Post by CharonJr »

Hiya,

I don't know if anything has been done about the WA AI concerning a defence against Sealion, but in a recent game I faced 17 units in Cairo (which was nice), but England was defended by just 3 fighters and 1 AA despite me having 3 fighters and 7 bombers close to England with 1 paratrooper and 4 transports ready to invade.

BTW, this was Spring 41.

Some changes were made, but from what your saying it sounds like it is over focused on Africa to the detriment of defending England against a determined attack. It's a tough balance and next time Gary does some work on the AI I'm sure he'll look at this. Can I ask, what level were you playing at and how did the game turn out in the end (let us know how it comes out if you're not done yet).
All understanding comes after the fact.

I played at challenging and it was finished with a fairly comfortable autovictory (74 PP IIRC with Russia largely out of the picture, it was Fall43 I think).

Due to my subs the Atlantic was nearly devoid of WA transports, so essentially Fortress Europe was pretty safe, but Japan was starting to see first signs of trouble.

China was largely left alone (except its forces being kept low by bombers). German and Japanese forces linked up in South East Asia and Russia.

I am not sure if I could have won a regular victory later on, but it could have happened since at the end basically only 7 Russian provinces, Australia and the US were left.

Interesting, I am just playing a new gam with the same settings and mainly the same tactic, but this time the WA seem to have resigned to the fate of Cairo. My 20 units (mainly tanks, infantry, artillery and some planes) are faced by "just" 18 (including many militia) WA units, but England is defended by 9 units, including 1 infantry, 1 artillery, 2 AA and 2 fighters.

This does look good to me.

It will be interesting to see what I am able to do with the 9 bombers, 4 fighters, 4 transports and 1 para into position for Spring41 this time.

Nice there was even a tank build right before the spring turn in England, but as before there is no chance for the AI to defend against a determined Sealion attempt, Scotland was defended by 3 fighters, 1 AA, 1 Artillery, 1 militia and 1 infantry who were beaten eliminated without any real problems by the Luftwaffe (especially with the tech advantage just gain the turn before).

The main problem seems to be the AIs unwillingness to put its fleet in harms way. There is a huge WA fleet in the Sea of Scotland (3 CV + planes, 5 heavies, 7 lights, 2 transports) which would have been more than adequate to prevent any invasion, but surely would have lost a fair number of ships to the bombers and subs. But at least that would have meant some more turns for England and some Luftwaffe planes might have been damaged, too (not very many due to the tec advantage).

Just finished a first game with AI as Allies with the new patch.

Britain was definitely defended better than before, and the AI stuck its fleet into the Med a little early on just to be a thorn in my side (I suppose). I thought the AI was noticeably improved.

Still, it did leave Gibraltar empty when it ventured into Morrocco. I think the AI should assign a few more points to defending narrows. It always makes the Germans' life much easier once the AI lets them seal off the Med.
