Hello Starshatterers

Post by ScifiSpirit »

I just bought this game yesterday, and i like it a lot! I was thinking i could buy a new space sim, there just weren't any as far as i knew, until i remembered this when i saw it mentioned somewhere in forums. I went to Starshatter site and Matrix games site, and right away when i read the description about the game i knew i was going to buy this [:)] A real bargain for ~23 euros, or ~27 with taxes.

I decided to try the demo anyway because i wanted to play it right away, the demo (v. 3.9.4) rocked, except that after training missions when i got to the point i could do ground missions i got severe slowdowns after a few ground missions and all text in hud was obstructed by solid color boxes in place of the texts when i changed the hud color, the screen updated about 1 time per 3-5 seconds [:P] Nothing helped, restarts or lowering the details to minimum. But anyway i decided to buy the game, i assumed that it probably has been fixed unless it was because of my computer, or if not, i couldn't miss this awesome game [:)]

The bug hasn't appeared in full version (v. 4.5.0) by now, i've gone beyond the point where it occurred in demo. But i do now have a small mouse glitch, if i set the game to same resolution as my windows is in, for example 1024x768x32, so that the game doesn't change resolution on start, i cannot move the mouse cursor to bottom edge or right edge of screen, it stops about 1-2 centimeters from bottom and about 1 from right edge of screen, however if the game changes resolution on start or if i change it after the game has started, i can move the cursor anywhere. Just a small thing, but i thought i'd tell about this along with all this other babble [:D]

Oh yeah, and 1 more thing, i'm wondering why the ship still uses fuel after i have put the throttle to 0% ? Making power for electrical equipment perhaps? But a battery would sound a better idea for that purpose.

Has anyone else had these problems?

System:

Hardware:
amd athlon 1.4 ghz
512 mb ddr 266mhz
geforce 3 ti 200

Software:
win98se
starshatter v. 4.5.0 and demo 3.9.4
forceware 56.64 (yeah, it's old, but so is my geforce [:D], and newer ones like seventies don't give any performance increase, actually they just slow things down on my computer. And system shock 2 doesn't run with any newer forceware [;)] I'll update when it comes necessary for problem solving, but im not playing the demo anymore [:)])

Great game, keep working on it.

I believe that is a lack a memory problem, however I only play the demo.

Thats a valid reason not to upgrade.[;)]

First of all, Tervetuloa StarShatter universumiin! [:D]

O.K. I'll continue with more known language in the forums, so that others can understand what I'm talking about too.

4.5.0 patch was major graphical update and your graphic card is a bit dated so you might experience some slowdowns along the way.

I'd advice you to take a look at StarShatter Central site. There's some mods to download and very nice forum for StarShatter fans.

O.K. Once more welcome and enjoy!

Back to our native language [;)]

Thanks. Oh yeah, i forgot to mention the memory - geforce 3 ti 200 with 64mb memory. Might be a memory problem, but how much do you have memory Duken? It didn't cross my mind because the demo otherwise ran so smoothly. (Might be that the demo ground missions simply need more memory).

In the full version with everything at maximum just like in demo, everything runs very smoothly so far, except that i cannot use speculars and/or bump maps because they cause texture flicker, i think gf3 doesn't support pixel shader 2.0, not sure about vertex shader 1.1. But i don't mind, the game looks very good even without them, and shadows work and look really realistic and great.

I saw www.starshatter.com's forum, visited it first before this one. I haven't taken a look at the mods yet.
OK, Papi [:)]
I saw there has been some effort to put up a server, is there one online now? Or any agreed time to gather and play multiplayer together?
