From the Japanese Player:

After a month of my airstrikes, costing me way more than I was reaping I have called off most of the air offensive until my pilots can re-arm with new aircraft and train. The abominable strike on Wasile left me with damaged carriers and ego but not much more.

On a positive note, the ASW efforts of the Navy and every flyable aircraft are gaining results. In the last week we have reports of numerous American subs sinking, or being damaged to such an extent that they are leaving station. Industry is getting the supplies they need and production has begun once again. My merchants aren't without casualties, but more are getting through than before. I am hopeful that another month of such efficient ASW work will cause the submarines to seek safer grounds.

Today the Sculpin was hit; Wahoo and Steelhead driven under.

As far as I am concerned, driving the subs under is just as good to get my oil home. This is the best chance for me to gain points at this time in the game. The Allied player is not coming too far outside his air umbrella, and my pilots all need training. His subs are out on their own and I need to capitalize on that for point and for production.

A few other surprises brewing.

Well it seems my perseverance on ASW has paid off. I''ve finally unstuck all my organizing air units... today was like Christmas in Osaka/Kobe... now if the pilots knew which way to sit in the cockpit Japan would be dangerous.[;)]

Bear in mind that I've never played as Japan..

But if I was you I'd start building fortresses. By that I mean "hard points" in your defense with big big garrisons and a CAP of at least 50 or even 100 fighters at all times. That way you have a safe area to operate your fleet under and position bombers.

As an Allied player, that's what I would fear most from the Japanese in 43 and 44 - an impenetrable CAP, a base in my way that costs more for me to take it does for you to defend.

It may be too late for you to attempt something like this at Davao, but I'd start around Manila/Clark, the Marianas (esp. Saipan), Iwo, Rangoon, and etc.

Been working on that, so happy to hear some confirmation. I've also set up a series of minor bases behind the big ones to fly LRCAP and stage. My biggest problem now is getting at his invasion forces. For the most part, he has overwhelming superiority if not in numbers, then experience.

To date Mid May '43 45 Allied subs confirmed sunk.

Salmon went down yesterday near port, Whale and Tambor hit and sunk near Formosa.

SITUATION REPORT: 5-16-43

The IJN CVs previously spotted NE of Midway on 5-11-43 suddenly re-appeared off Wake Is. On 5-15-43, they sent a hapless AVD to the bottom but they made the mistake of staying for a return strike the next day. P-38s and bombers were staged into Wake overnight. Unfortunately the Allied bombers didnt fly, but the P-38s on CAP shot down 25 A6M5, Judy and Jill at a cost of 1 P-38.

Allied command was not aware that these plane types were already operational.

SITUATION REPORT: 5-25-43

EASTERN NEW GUINEA CAMPAIGN: INVASION OF PORT MORESBY.....D-DAY minus 1

The largest Allied amphibious assault of the war will commence at precisely 4 AM tomorrow as over 500 USN and RN ships assemble off Port Moresby. 5 1/2 Infantry Divisions and the equivalent of an Armored Division will wade ashore to face 30,000 well entrenched fanatical Japanese defenders. The Allied assault forces will be supported by 9 BBs, 10 CVs, 4 CVLs, and 6 CVEs. Hopefully the weather gods cooperate tomorrow.

SOLOMONS CAMPAIGN: THE BATTLE FOR GUADALCANAL

The 100, 000 Allied troops at Tassafaronga are struggling through the jungles to reach Lunga and the 1st assault formations should start arriving in a week.

SITUATION REPORT: 5-26-43

EASTERN NEW GUINES CAMPAIGN: INVASION OF PORT MORESBY......D-DAY

55,000 Allied troops stormed ashore on D-Day as Bombardment TFs blasted Japanese positions. Curiously, none of the 500+ naval bombers flew in support but 300 land based bombers from Cooktown and Thursday Is. dropped their payloads on the dug in defenders with deadly accuracy. The entire 1st USMC Division made it ashore today with the help of the brand new LSTs and LCIs and orders were given for an all-out shock attack for tomorrow.

CINCPAC is concerned with the heavy losses suffered today by the MSWs due to CD guns. Port Moresby had been blasted by 300+ medium and heavy bombers for over 2 months and intell reported that the port was 100% damaged. With 200 ships in the 2 amphib TFs very few APs, LSTs, LCI, AKs suffered damage but over 20 MSWs were either sunk outright or will sink over the next couple of days.
